America, home of the lazy, disrespectful, free-loaders!

Why is it that people can break every rule in the book yet people who follow rules and work hard seem to get disrespected? People who break rules and take everything for granted pass through life with ease while everyone else who takes pride in what they do, works hard, and respects earning everything they have has to jump through hurdles, in the snow, bare foot, both ways, with one arm tied behind their back. Can you see where I’m going with this?

Let me tell you a story. I worked for a company for nearly 4 years and truly enjoyed my job. Like so many other manufacturing plants in this area, it went out of business. Everyone was laid off. This, however, spawned a great opportunity. I was told I could go to college and would receive unemployment benefits until I graduated. I hate the idea of living off the government. However I would much rather have had my job back. This was not something I asked for. Well, a year from graduation and the government backs out of their end of the bargain. So the people we elect to represent us pass garbage like NAFTA to allow all our jobs to go overseas and then give you a kick in the butt back home. No big deal, work is good for you. Ill get a job. A friend of mine got me a job working third shift at a furniture factory. It’s a bottom of the totem pole, manual labor, sweat dripping job. I have learned from watching my dad to put as much effort into everything you do, regardless of what it is, work hard, respect others and you will be rewarded. For the past 2 months I have been going to school full time during the day and working full time at night. I know a few other people doing the exact same thing. its tough but I know it will be worth it in the long run, right dad?

Now here it gets a little more personal. This part is about one of the toughest women I have ever met. My soon-to-be mother-in-law. Lets just say Jane-doe. Jane and her husband each held a full time job, acquired some land, and built a house. The American dream. A couple years later her husband develops a condition that prohibits him from working. To save the house and family, she steps up and gets a second job. She toughs it out and after another couple years her main employer goes out of business as they cannot compete with China (sound familiar?). Everyone was laid off. Now after a few months of job searching she has no luck in finding a permanent full time job. Why is it that hard working, prideful people always seem to be the ones pushing this heavy boat?

So lets flip the coin for a minute and talk a bit about the people IN the boat. You probably know someone who doesn’t work by choice, someone who thinks everything should be handed to them, someone who thinks they don’t need to work hard. I have run across several. I have overheard conversations about people bragging about how much food stamps they get and then complain about working too many hours. I have heard someone say “don’t get that second job, you can make more in food stamps.” I see people buying $7 steaks with food stamps and selling what they don’t spend. No, I don’t have a problem with feeding the hungry….IF feeding the hungry is actually what is going on. I have seen first hand a friend of mine refuse to flip burgers but spend the gas money making countless trips to the social security office attempting to get on disability.

So the place in which I work. These people lurk there too. A week after I was hired, the company announces a small lay-off, volunteers first. After everyone was informed of being eligible for unemployment, there were more volunteers than they need. There are also those who do not think they should follow rules. If I’m not mistaken rules are established for a reason, right? Workers get a paycheck for DOING work, right? Not the case at my current job. There are a few “chosen ones” who seem to have special privileges working folks only dream of. But it doesn’t stop there, some are lucky enough to get into management positions. Put it all together, throw in a few complaints by hard working individuals, and what do you get? Lazy, disrespectful, poor workers defending lazy, disrespectful, poor workers with no disciplinary action taken. It a shame to see people who don’t work hard when we live in an economy with record unemployment.

I am often dumbfounded at how others think with no logic and no (not so common) common sense. When did we lose pride in this country? When did we take the notion that settling for whatever is free is the best thing to do? When did we lose our American culture? My grandfather told me that if its not worth doing right then its not worth doing at all. One of the greatest quotes of all time, JFK said “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I am tired of supporting everyone who puts forth no effort in bettering themselves or the ones around them. I’m tired of pushing the boat while a steady flow of people jump in. I’m tired of seeing people with the drive and heart to succeed being kicked to the curb while everyone else is given opportunity ,after opportunity, after opportunity. It is time we step up. It is time we start having a little personal accountability. It is time we start taking pride in what we do. Its time we all start contributing to society instead of being a leach. It is time to re-define the word AMERICAN!

I don't think I can add anything to this commentary... except "Amen!"

Forthright

Amen!! I stood behind a lady in the check out line at the store and she actually said "I gots to have me another baby so I can gets some 'mo benefits"...seems to be the general consensus in the Delta. I was not raised this way (even remotely) and after 15+ years here, it still amazes me. I heard it described lately as "generational poverty"...appropriate, I thought. If the parents were on welfare/assistance and raised their children to accept this as the norm (if not the expected), then those children do not see a problem with it, so on and so forth...thus the entitlement sentiment is born. This whole area is rampant with people who can tell you 1,000 ways to "beat the system" and drive a cadillac to the welfare office. I actually got a flyer in the mail yesterday telling me that if I qualified for ANY benefits (ie...reduced school lunch, ebt cards, ssi, section 8 housing, etc) I qualified for a FREE government sponsored cell phone! All I could do was shake my head.

Please don't misunderstand...I have NO problem in the world with these programs existing for people who work hard, want to better themselves, and NEED them.
I myself was on WIC w/ my first child & have been on unemployment, although neither of which lasted more than 6 months. As soon as I was able, I got off of the programs and I am grateful that they were available when I needed them. But the point is...they are meant to be temporary assistance during a bad time....not a LIFESTYLE!!
Bottom line - If you don't want to change (and nobody makes you), you wont.

There are 2 things you can do to help Greenville and also to help the USA.
First is the USA ! Simplly vote Republican !

Now Greenville ? Whatever you do when you vote "DO NOT" vote for anyone running that has ever served on the city council. They have "ALL" had a part in our regression. Just hope that a business mind gets in the race that does not need the money to survive but wants to make a differece. Not only our Mayor but our city council has failed us drastically. There is not a one on the present council that can turn this city around and make a difference. "NOT A ONE"

Why does voting republican help the usa. Does the republican party hate black people except at election time?

I dont even know anyone who owns a cadillac or gets food stamps or whatever or can even afford to get their nails does. I watch every penny I spend work 8-5 every day buying just enough gas to get by. where are these people.

Anonymous said...

These people are everywhere. Obviously you are not one because you work like me and pinch pennies just to get the basics. I watched an interesting show on Animal Planet the other night about infestations. Greenville is infested with government payout fraud. Unfortunately, there are no jobs for people in this town, so the cycle continues.

Anonymous said...

This blog is so boring. It always go back to the stupid food stamps, nails and cell phones. Guess what? Greenville is not the only place where people abuse the system. Do you think that Shameeka's Cadillac Escalade or multiparity is the root of the problem? The discussion should be about lack of jobs or the inability of people to occupy them. What about the morbid obesity that plagues the area or the lack of recreational or cultural outlets in town.

Anonymous said...

Yes it is a problem. Instead of keeping their money to spend on their kids we, the taxpayers, foot the bill for them. We feed their kids 2 out of 3 meals everyday. We pay their teachers to baby sit their kids on our nickel from the time they're born until they maybe graduate high school if they don't get put in jail before then that we also pay for to house them and feed them. I could go on and on just ask me.

Anonymous said...

"lack of recreational or cultural outlets in town"???
As a child (growing ups here in Washington County) we would ride our bikes, cut grass with push mowers, play baseball, basketball, football, and tennis at the local empty lot and park. You do not need a 4 million dollar building to exercise!

I am tired of hearing about no jobs! Learn a trade or how to do something and you will find a job! Or save your money, invest in your own business!
(but hey, why do that when you can get a job with the schools, head start, WIC, Unemployment Service, Federal Government, State Government, County Government, City Government, Post Office, etc... then you never worry about the next paycheck, benefits, vacation, sick leave or days like today (MLK Holiday)

One Question with no excuses !!

Was Greenville ever in the shape it is now under white leadership ?
Do you think white people have lost the ability to create jobs for both black and white while maintaining a budget.
Under present leadership there will never be jobs because the city government is weak and unstable along with standards that are very weak.

The educated and hard working blacks in Greenville know the problem and yes many of them are Republican !

Anonymous said...

I have friends that are retired from the Post Office, retired school teachers, curent school teachers..Did those used to be good jobs and now are they bad jobs. What are you implying?

Are you just a hater?

Anonymous said...

No I am not a hater. We need goodpostal workers, good teachers, etc.. I am implying that here in the Delta there are so many government (type) jobs that the private industry has to compete for workers. We can not afford to pay $25 - $40 hr plus weeks of vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, retirement plans, health insurance, training, continuing education, etc... we would have a labor cost of over $100/hr with these benefits.

Just this morning on the Today Show with Matt Lauer they were in the delta at one high school where there were over 90 young black girls that were pregnant and were discussing whats wrong with the black parents and community to let this continue to happen year after year. One critic said it's learned from their home to get the handouts to slide through life. Oh, there were another 200 hundred in that same high school that had already had children and were bringing them to school for free child care, food, and healthcare. Just think of all the millions of dollars that are coming out of the taxpayers pocket due to these irresponsible parents for not educating their children that there is other ways to get ahead instead of the same old way of gov't handouts.

Anonymous said...

Sir: Please get your facts correct. This was not a high school in the Delta. This was Frayser High School in Memphis. Most of these kids were transfers from various schools in Memphis in an effort to keep them from being dropouts. They made a mistake but we still need to help these kids right a wrong and dropping out shouldn't be their only choice.

Anonymous said...

Oh sure here we go again "Lets help them " And the beat goes on !
Help those that help themselves !
Help is a way of life in Greenville. We need to be called government ms home of government assistance. It's just a way of life in Greenville buffets, slot machines, cell phones and nice wheels on a wore out car with children at home with a grandmother or a un wed mom.

4:17 The last I checked Memphis is the beginning of what is known as the delta. Get your facts straight. Delta is not just in Ms. Anywhere between Memphis and Vicksburg is considered the delta. And all those pregnant girls attended that one school no matter where they were shipped from meaning that more money was spent busing them around on my dime.

There was a big fight at Greenville High Wednesday afternoon. A lot of students involved. They pulled the ceilings down trying to break the wires to the surviellance cameras. Some jumped out windows to avoid police. No, this was not on the news. If you are not a parent, you have no idea what goes on at the school.

So if you can't contribute anything to the the discussion keep your big mouth shut. This has never been an informative site. The extreme racists of greenville, as yourself, have ruled this site and will shut it down. There is no room for open discussion of the real problems that plague this city. The SUBJECT MATTER "never matters". I assure you that this city will not go downhill as fast as this blog site goes down. There are good people in this city that will make sure of that. Those people are whiter, blacker, kinder, positive, open minded people that appreciate everyone. Just do your best to help people or do your best to change people. Do either without a sense or purpose of hurting someone.

ROSCHELLE , welcome to the number one source to really find out what the citizens of G'ville think and say. Most of us here on this blog grew up here and are stuck in G'ville and have seen over the last 40 to 50 years how G'ville has gone from the QUEEN CITY of the DELTA to the HELL HOLE it has become. I am sorry you picked this place to raise your kids and family. You must have been drunk that day you pointed at the map and said, Thats the place I want to raise my kids. Our schools were number one in the state back in my day,the city was number one in the delta, the population was nearly 60,000 people,we could go out after dark, our streets were nice and smooth,we could sleep with our doors unlocked, there was shopping downtown that was great, parades downtown during christmas at night, fourth of july went on for a week on the levee with bands, boat shows, boat races, ski shows fireworks, carnivals and headline acts every night that would draw thousands to the levee every night. None of the above happen now nor will it ever be that way again. Do you want to know why? It is because most of us are scared to go downtown at night because of these black immoral idiots not being raised by responsible parents. G'VILLE WAS A GREAT PLACE TO GROW UP BACK THEN WITH DOWNTOWN LOOKING LIKE NEW YORK CITY ON THE WEEKENDS AND G'VILLES TWO, YES I SAID TWO, MALLS FILLED WITH SHOPPERS. So if you are a new arrival and don't know that our houses have dropped in price to nearly half what they once were while our taxes have risen 10 fold over the last few years because of the whites fleeing this place so fast we can't keep u-haul trailers in town. Sorry to burst your bubble but what were you thinking when you moved here? Sears has been in G'ville since the 1800's now they even got the hell out of G'ville because merchandise wouldn't even make it on the floor from the loading dock in back from all the theft going on.Thats a fact straight from the horses mouth. Big Lots was the same way here. I'll give you two guesses what color the employees were that were stealing and the first one I will not count. As for doing something to turn things around you ask, well those of us that have seen these things did try and for a long time but to never see anything change except to get worse, so we are tired and worn out so if you want to waste your time and energy be our guest and GOODLUCK.

Anonymous said...

And the beat goes on. So you are a quitter. A old worn out white dude. I hate it.

Anonymous said...

White dude tried, what did you do black ass. Nothing but ruin our great city.

Anonymous said...

A old wore out white dude Hmmmm ! The old wore out white dudes are the ones that built this city. The black dudes and their unwed dudettes have torn it down. So take your cell phone and buy a few minutes so you can call your mother who has your children while you go to the mall and use your handicapped parking pass to go in and see what you can steal !

I have come to believe that as long as I have a job, pay my house note, and accept that I am doing my part to make at least one person smile as I say "Good Morning" to everyone I meet at work, both visitors and coworkers, I may make at least one person a little happier for one day. That is enough for me. Now, why don't all of you do this and the morale can improve in this town, one person at a time.

It started when private schools started in the early 70's. If the whites had not fled the public school system G'ville would have survived and things would have been different. But when private schools charge just as much to attend k-12 by the time you add it up it is close to 60,000 dollars just to go to school. That sent whites fleeing from G'ville once they figured that out. Back then that was a nice house to live in. That I believe is why G'ville has gotten in such dire straits due to poor public schools now and the outrageous tuition to attend private schools. Just think how much house you could afford or how much more saving you could do with 300 to 500 hundred dollars a month. I know I could use that money to apply somewhere else besides sending my kid to kindergarten. I didn't spend that amount to attend Delta State back in the 70's. My tuition was only 400 dollars a semester not a month.

Anonymous said...

I believe private school tuituon has always been expensive. But, a necessary expensive to educate your child for the most part. There are some plenty of very bright kids that come from the public school system here also. But just check the ACT scores and they tell you where the children can get the best education for the $$. Remember, not only are you paying $60K for private school, but you're paying at least that much for public school kids with your tax dollars.

It boils down to jobs. People leave because of the economy. If people have jobs they have choice of schools I guess. I know of one friend that left. He had a job, she lost a job. Push comes to shove they opt for better public schools in south Miss. Now they both have jobs less private school tuition X 2.

For some strange reason, they would rather be here!

Anonymous said...

It does not cost 60,000 dollars to send your kid to public schools. If it did then there would be no blacks in public schools. I only pay taxes of 600 dollars a year on my house so how is that 60,000 dollars over 12 years. They eat free ,they are bus'ed for free all on that small amount I pay each year on taxes of 600 dollars. You need to rethink and get your facts straight.

Anonymous said...

Go to the Greenville Public School District website. It states as a fact that its cost per pupil is $6,279 which amounts to $75,000 for 12 years. Private school is a bargain. Just remember you are not the only person paying taxes. Some pay much more than $600.

Anonymous said...

$75,000 per year for public education? Sure, free transportation, free breakfast, free lunch, free baby-sitting and the list goes on and on. It's free to 80% of the students who attend public schools because their parents pay little or no taxes.

For the other 20% who pay taxes,it is hardly free! You will need to add the $75K + $60K to get the cost of their children's education. But, at the end of the day, private school graduates have a few skills that pubic schools just don't provide... like the ability to read, write and get a job!

Anonymous said...

Not 75,000 per year..For 12 years of schooling. You're right, a much better education.

Anonymous said...

It says the state spends 65oo per student not it cost 6500 per student. Thats a play on words. How much money a month do you think a parent pays a month to the G'ville public school his or her child attends? It is 0 dollars. Now each month how much do you have withdrawn from your bank account to send your kid to washington school? I bet it is more than the public schools withdraw (which is 0 ) out of your bank account. So it costs waaaay more to attend private schools than public. Don' t forget you are also paying for public school which your child does not attend. Now add that to your private school tuition and what do you come up with? My calculations come up to way more for private school. So even if you pay 1,000 dollars a year in taxes for 12 years your kid goes to public school for 12 years for 12,000 dollars over the period of 12 years. Now how much do you pay for building fund at washington school? Add that up also . Now how much gas do you spend picking up your child and taking your child to school everyday. How much do you spend for lunch for your child everyday at washington school? There are many more little nick picking fees at private schools you fork out money for like the football team needs new jerseys or we need lights for the baseball field or magazine drives . All of the above are free at public schools. They ride ,eat and play sports for free.

Anonymous said...

A free ride ain't the way to go. You learn nothing with a free ride. You just keep on expecting something free. Your last sentence said it all, except it didn't say anything about learning.

Anonymous said...

The Mator of Greenville is not seeking a third term!!!

Anonymous said...

4:47 We are not talking about free rides .We are talking what started the downfall of G'ville. Which was the whites fleeing the public school system then private schools taking the majority of the whites money just to stay here in G'ville to send there kids to school. Thats why the whites finally figured out the cost of it all and soon fled G'ville.

Anonymous said...

As the black population increased in Greenville so did the way of life. Private schools offered a great education in a safe environment and many white families worked 2 jobs to offer their children the best. My question here is why didn't the blacks get together as the whites did and form a school to educate their children ? I can tell you why !The majority of blacks were satisfied with public education and it was free. Look at the public schools now that they are majority black. Are they safe ? What is the average ACT score ? How many females are pregnant ? Is this all because you do not have any whites in the school or because the whites left to better themselves ?
Greenville was built by the whites and no excuses made can not make anyone beleive that the blacks have not destroyed it. Our government and the give-away programs are at work in Greenville Ms. The home where as long as we get a check from the government, free food, etc we are satisfied.
You can never work together when a persons family values are so far apart and there is no desire to know that you have got to work to get more.70% of Greenville is black and out of that 70% only 20% want more and are not living on government assistance.

Anonymous said...

who will be running for mayor?????

Anonymous said...

7:21 I think the families that could afford it spent their money wisely on education. The people that live here now will continue to send their kids to the best schools they can afford. These private schools not only provide great educations but private paying jobs.

Downfall to me is "lack of jobs". Started with the Artman reign as mayor.

I agree about Artman. He is ruining St Joeseph as we speak.

No big company will ever come to G'ville. Companies talk to each other about workforce's and I m sure the ones that have been here and left after a year have told them that our workforce is a bunch of lazy, thieving bunch of idiots. Thats why sears finally left and big lots left from all the stealing going on. Remember the first lowes closing down? They left because of the theft going on. Heck before they even opened up this second time most of the ones hired were fired because of theft. It was all in the newspaper remember. So forget about ever getting any company to come here to G'ville.THATS WHY WHEN OUR KIDS GRADUATE THEY RUN TO THE BIG CITIES FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO EVEN GET A GOOD JOB.

It does not matter about color, only the individuals morals and values. It matters that they can run a city properly without disgracing themselves. And also with influence from all the people who pay taxes to this city.
Also, if one more panhandler asks me for money in front of a store I will close my window and call the police. I am so tired of the bums. Maybe Guilianni can come clean up our streets like he did in New York City. LOL

Stop shooting yourselves in the collective foot, and begin focusing on the positives instead of tearing down the town and its perceived problems. YOU are the problem---you and your pathetic negative attitudes.

Employee theft is just another "entitlement" in Greenville. It's not enough to have a job. You have to "share" your wealth with all of the other "club" members who believe they are owed something because someone of their same race was a slave 200 years ago! Bullshit!

Employees were stealing appliances right off the truck before they ever made it into Sears. Lowe's has lost so much in employee theft that it is considering leaving Greenville...again!

Greenville is economically DEAD! Sell your house at a $100K loss as I did two years ago and get the hell out of this corrupt and dying city!

Greenville was my home, and I will always love it, just as I did my parents. I loved them for the lessons they taught me in life... one of which was to know when to accept the reality of defeat... and then...simply move on with your life!

Who stands out for the next mayor elect? Beside the answer nobody. Will any republicans throw thier name in? It would be hard for them to compete. I'm thinking McGee, Simmons, Gines. Seems to me that they have been prepping themselves for this day. Ever watch city council meetings? Parade coverages? Not much in choices, but I will still vote. I'll vote for the one that will freeze city council and mayoral pay raises for 10 years. Reduce the number of city employees instead of raising taxes. STOP THE CLOSED DOOR HEARINGS. The one that will actually repair and pave our streets instead of patching them (Broadway looks like a war zone).

I'll vote for anyone that will actually "man up" (that sounds stupid these days) for Greenville.

4:19 you need to read once again what 12:30, 8:48 and 8:29 had to say. You are one of the die hard G'villians with your head stuck up your butt so you can't see reality. G'ville was home but now it is not the home we once loved. That G'ville is long gone and will never be what we remembered.

I will not vote for anyone that has been on the council.

Then I guess you will not vote.

Why didn't McNeece from Stern list working at Riverside on his "publicly displayed" resume on the internet?

Nor, Solomon?

But, he certainly did include that he's a teacher at DSU----but, omittedly that it's an on-line course.

Imagine that. A certified 3rd. grade teacher teaching a class at an University! Only in the Delta!

Since this is where I get my news, who is McNeece? Give us some background info.

8:29 Did you see todays paper? G'ville has lost another 18% more of it's population. Be sure and turn out the lights when you leave cause the mass exodus is happening around you and you don't have a clue. Home won't be there much longer.

only 18% I would have thought it would have been more

Did you hear about former Greenville Public Schools' Superintendent Estes Taplin?

Seems he some how landed a job over in Louisiana as a superintedent and was making $114,000 a year PLUS $700 a month for housing (yes, he was still commuting back and forth to his hometown of Ruth, MS!). But, they were letting him "rent" a house for $1 a month. And then it came time to re=new his contract and he refused to sign it and rejected it. He wanted MORE money, to the tune of $145,000 a year. He was NOT offered a new contract with the higher salary and they instead named an interim superintendent. Supposedly, he has a law suit against the school district.

Don't know anything about a McNeece at Stern school, but do know that a certain Teresa McNeece is currently the Superintendent for Itawamba County School District. You know, the school district that did NOT want a female student to bring another female student to the prom as her escort. It was all in the newspapers. Wonder if they are related? Stern's McNeece might be from that area?

The former Sup was one of the smart ones. He made his money and left Greenville. All of the smart people are leaving.

And all the really ignorant ones are still checking this site to read more garbage!

8:53 Don't even bother trying to explain G'ville is dead. 6:59 is one of those die hards with their head stuck up their butt.
