A New Day for DRMC

Delta Regional Medical Center named J. Stansel Harvey as its new Chief Executive Officer and President Wednesday.

Stancil, who grew up in Ruleville, will assume his new post on Jan. 3, 2011.“It feels good,” said Harvey, who signed a two-year deal. “I’m coming back home.”

Harvey, who has a Master of Health Services Administration degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, is leaving his job as a healthcare consultant in Granbury, Texas. However, he has more than 28 years of hospital leadership experience, including nine years as president of Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital, a 229-bed facility in Fort Worth, Texas.

“We have the right man for the job,” said Billy Schultz, DRMC’s Board of Trustees chairman. “We looked at about 10 candidates and began to narrow our
search down from there. “The board of trustees unanimously selected him based on his proven leadership in hospital administration and positive track record in financial and operational accomplishments,” he said.

Harvey succeeds Mazie Whalen, who became interim CEO and president on April 15. She will return to her post as Senior Vice President of Nursing Services. “It was a good experience for me,” said Whalen. “It was a challenge but we have someone to take over.”

Schultz said he and the board were pleased with Whalen’s job. “She was fantastic,” said
Schultz. “This is nothing against her at all. In fact, she didn’t want the job. I can’t say enough praise about what she did.” Harvey and his wife, Lisa, have a son, Ben, who lives in Arkansas.

Welcome Mr. Harvey and your family. You have an incredible opportunity to provide DRMC with the leadership and integrity that has been lacking for many years. As the Delta's largest medical center, DRMC has some truly great employees who have long been hoping to have a leader who is both fair and honest.

Change comes slowly in the Delta, but it can come. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer... and always be sure that you can discern the difference between these groups.

Boards and doctors don't run a hospital, but they will if given half a chance. Trust your instincts and administrative knowledge to make needed changes. Listen to your employees. As Henry Ford once stated, "I never learned anything about car making sitting in a board room. Most of what I know today, I learned from listening to the men on the line."

Best of luck in your new position.

I want him to be successful. The only way he will have a chance is to talk to the "real" workers in the trenches to see the "real" picture. The "bosses" don't know or care what we think. If this is done, DRMC will have a fresh start.

Try googling our new boss. Some interesting info.

You are right Forthright! If Mr. Harvey depends on the administrative staff to give him the "truth", he will be gone in six months.

A new broom sweeps clean!

I hope that he will be aware of ALL employees that try to "suck up" to him.

Don't know if a certain employee is still there or not...but, look out for the technician that works on the "in-house" phone system.

It is a fact that most ceo listen to the employees that are actually doing the work. Just take a look at the japanese companies and you will see the ceo not in an office all to himself but centered in one big room surrounded by all the workers. That way they see and hear what is really going on.

Can you find the misspelled word in today's DDT?

Today's DDT is the same as the 3 month ago DDT.

Has anyone "clued in" Mr. Harvey concerning the Delta Scoop?

Who is keeping up wit the fights at GWHS? They have had several this year. I am glad the last one finally made the news. The others have been "covered up." The community needs to be aware of the violence in the school.

Off Topic....Has anyone noticed all the trash on the south end of Wal-Mart's parking lot? It is a disgrace to see all the empty plastic bags, trash and who knows what else on the edge of that wooded area. If I wasn't so old and crippled I would go out there and pick it up myself. I hate seeing our town look this way.

Doesn't Wal-Mart have a "trash picker-up" person employed to keep the parking lot and surrounding area clean?

Call and ask to speak to the manager of the store.(Be sure to mention the chicken bones.)

And if that doesn't work, call the corporate office in Arkansas. They just love to hear from customers. If we don't start complaining and expressing our concerns, then nothing will change at the Wal-Mart.

The "other" Wal-Marts are clean, and all of the employees are nice, friendly, and always say "thank you".

How many more wives does Johnnie Walls HAVE?

I go to Wal Mart at least twice a week, I have never ever seen chicken bones.

Well although a problem all over Greenville i will get away from the chicken bones and paper litter and try to get back to DRMC and Mr Harvey.
So far the feedback has been really good concerning Mr Harvey. I do not think he will be bullied and he is capable of spotting those wanting to suck up a mile away. I understand he is listening to the employees who are in the trenches so to speak and will not buy into the higher ups of the past. Employees have met Mr Harvey already that had never met Ray Humphreys ; so he is out and about the Hospital. I have been told that the lazy days of the doctors, nurses etc are over and that he will be a great asset to the community. He will not be threatened or dictated to by a doctor.
He has a big task in front of him but i am sure he was made aware of certain doctors coming in and after meeting them he knew what to expect.
Also think the interim Mrs Whalen and Alfe did a good interim job. Mazee knows doctors and nurses and knows who works and gets along and who does not and i am sure she passed along info that will be of great help to him in the future.
Good luck Mr Harvey and this is just coffee shop talk but it is good info and some i will leave at the coffee shop but from all at the coffee shop Don't back up and stand strong because DRMC needs it !

The DDT website is a complete waste of bandwidth. SHould be removed. I read somewhere about 4 months ago that they were going to revamp the site, when is that to happen? Do they not know that INDUSTRY reads the online papers to scope out a town BEFORE they commit to moving to that area??????

Mr. Harvey and the entire administration at Delta Regional is a joke. Why were good employees with families in this community run off? Also, I would love to know who made the decision to "save" money by cutting down on the nursing staff. The new ICU director is great, but can only do so much due to ignorant administration.

Ask Mr. Harvey what his neighbors think about him after his tree block attempt across the lake on his neighbors
