Praise for ER Staff!

Appreciative patient said...

I want to say a positive for the DRMC ER STAFF. I recently had a severe allergic reaction to medication with a BP of 70/40. I was obviously very ill and covered in hives and splotches. I had to be ambulanced from the clinic to the DRMC.

The Ambulance staff were very kind and alert to my needs before, during and at the end of my transportation across town. Once arriving, the DRMC staff immediately took action to admit me and determine the cause of the reaction. Every one was attentive, courteous and professional. When questioned they answered an explanation or offered it, before the question occurred.

Knowing how low my BP was, I was scared to death and doing a lot of mental praying to God from the ride in the ambulance to arrival at DRMC. Within a short time, the physician, Hilton O'Neal and staff had my symptoms back under control. I had arrived around 4:30/5:00 PM and was treated and released in much better shape by 6:30PM.

At the end of the evening, I was splotch free and feeling sooo much better!!! I was truly relieved and impressed by everyone taking care of me. Thanks to all on the ER day staff on April 14th, 2009!!

It is great to hear a positive note about DRMC. The truth is that DRMC has some excellent doctors and nurses who are very talented and dedicated to their jobs. Positive ER experiences are rarely shared... because good service is what we expect from all health care providers.

Almost all of the criticism directed toward DRMC seems to be centered around its administration and their seemingly wasteful expenditures and unappreciative attitude toward staff.

It is hard for doctors and nurses to take pride in their jobs if they are not "appreciated" by the leadership of the hospital. Sure, both physicians and nurses make very good salaries, but if you dread going to work every day because of the bureaucratic BS from above, you can not perform your job effectively.

Health care dollars need to be spent "at the bedside" rather than in the "boardroom". If you look at any successful hospital in the country, you will see the "teamwork" starts at the top. When leaders lose sight of the fact that the patient is THE most important person in the hospital, quality care is compromised and the hospital's reputation will eventually suffer. Such is the case at DRMC.

I commend the employees of DRMC for their dedication to patient care in the face of administrative "abandonment". One of the first lessons in medical school is how to differentiate treating the causes of an illness rather than its "symptoms". To blame the many talented clinical staff members at DRMC is to attack the symptoms of a problem... without ever addressing the actual cause.

Bingo, Forthright. It's not the hospital docs or nurses -- it's administration everyone has a beef with!! There are some great nurses and some great MDs at DRMC that keep plugging away despite the atrocious mess Ray has made for them to clean up daily. Ray once said that a leader started to lose his/her effectiveness after five years in a leadership role. (Just ask Barbara Adams if he said it or not!!) Wish he and Alphe would take his advice and get out of the Delta completely!

I stopped at the Krystal in front of the hospital Saturday and got a bag of burgers. They were okay, not the best Krystals.

Is it true that G'ville has gotten stimulus money to build a wall around us to keep the rest of us from fleeing this hell hole? Someone that works for the city said that they saw the conformation to start on the wall later this spring. RUN For your lives!!!!!!

Thumbs UP for Dr. Trinca too! said...

Oh and by the way, I highly recommend Dr. Trinca's new office location and services.

On the day of my allergic reaction, I took one look at Family Medical Center and a look at Trinca's new empty parking lot and the decision was clear. In NOOOO way could I "sit and wait" for hours, I needed medical attention immediately, I was lucky Dr. Trinca was free when I walked into the clinic, to take me right away.

He was a very kind, concerned, involved physician that day and followed up with phone calls that night and the next day to be sure I was still doing better.

I will go back to him again when needed and convenient.

It looks like something is being built in front of Kroger on Hwy 1- anyone know?

Hey Anon 1:23pm...if you feel that strongly about how bad it is I have a suggestion for you. Get the Hell out! You are nothing but a cancer. You can leave now. Don't wait to get trapped by the wall. There are places from coast to coast with problems that resemble and mirror the problems we have in the Delta. This country will be defined on how we come out of our current crises and move forward as a nation. If we want to improve the Delta we must be positive, focused and work to move toward a better future. I know there are many people that want things a lot better for all. You and your negative attitude needs to get on Hwy 82 and find your own personal heaven. Good luck finding the perfect place you are looking for!

WOW Anon 6:43 You're kinda fiesty aren't you. I guess you are either broke and stuck here forever or just to obese to get off your butt to move! Don't you just love spending close to 60,000 dollars to send your kids to k- 12th grade, I know I don't. Paying several hundred dollars for a car tag is great too.

Anon 4:31. This is anon 6:34. I am not stuck here, I am not broke and I am not obese. I have a great job with a worldwide company and I live here because I CHOOSE to. There are many things that I really like about living here. Of course there are some things that I dislike. However, I will take the good with the bad and be realistic. No matter where you live there will be pros and cons. I choose to be a person to see the glass half full. So many people are so spoiled with their expectations. I urge you to enjoy your low cost of living. I urge you to enjoy the light traffic. Check out taxes in other parts of the country. Check out the problems all aound the country. We do not have it as bad as many people make it out to be! Remember that each of us has the choice to be happy, sad or what ever. But it is your choice!

so glad to hear good news about Dr. Trinca. I hope he does well with his new practice.

6:34 there is no worldwide company in G'ville so quit being in denial and sit your broke butt down. I sure hope you or your kids never have to have a emergency operation here. Goodluck in trying to make it to a real hospital. I know, I just had to rush my dad from DRMC after sitting there nearly 8 hours then having to rush him to Jackson because there was not a doctor that could handle it here.

6:34 Just in: Armstrong is charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.

Smith, who is two years removed from the Greenville Police Department, was shot once in the neck.

He was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he is listed in critical condition. SEE WHAT I MEAN 6:34 What a great hospital we have. Again I hope you never need emergency help so keep up the denial and keep looking thru those rose colored glasses.

@ 1:49 - There are several worldwide companies operating in and around Greenville. USG, Mars, several AgChem companies, UPS, and FedEx come to mind immediately. I am certain I could come up with more, but I feel I have made my point.

Anonymous said...

Anon 2:16...Your post shows just how short sighted some people are. If those companies are not worldwide I need someone to educate me on what worldwide is. Also, the company does not have to have an office/headquarters here to be represented here. I think it is funny that people assume I am fat, broke and dumb. I have multiple college degrees and probably make more money than some of the idiots above. I reiterate from my first statement...You have obviously made up your mind that you are not happy here. If it is ssssooooooo bad then just leave. It is not a hard thing to do. Also,I do not understand how you can compare Greenville's healthcare to Jackson's. The 5 county metropolitan area of Jackson has over 550,000 people and Washington County has less that 60,000. We should be more realistic with our expectations. You can't live in a small rural environment and have all of the "Big City' ammenities. And, whether you belive it or not, we are a small rural environment!

Anonymous said...

You got a point 4:02.

We need to lower our expectations!!

Anonymous said...

I dissagree with all of what 4:02 said. I thought G'ville wanted to grow and become the Queen City it once was. There's nothing wrong with wanting bigger expectations is it? And about those Worldwide companies like UPS or Fed EX, even small towns have them. I think they was talikng about large companies here in G'ville that employ 100's like G'ville Mills use to. G'ville use to have 2 malls,a thriving downtown, large companies that employed thousands, nearly 60,000 residents just in the city limits alone,Delta Bass Classic ,Jessie Brent Memorial race, one of the best 4th of July Celebrations you have evr seen. It went on for 4 or 5 days with big name headliners every night until the 4th. Yes G'ville has fallen way, way, down and with those that are SATISFIED with the way G'ville is going with their head in the sand it will only get WORSE!!!!!! I want more along with most people here in G'ville.

Oh how i lone for Greenville to once again be the Queen City instead of the Joker City. It just cannot happen under the present leadership. Our leaders are not on the same page and we have a Mayor that could care less regardless of what she says. Our next mayor if Hudson decides to move on (hopefully) will probably be Kenny (Hudson) Gines which will even be worse; so what do we do ? Blacks will elect a black even if there is a white candidate more qualified. It may sound racial but the truth is that no Delta town will move forward under a majority black leadership. If you think it can just give me a example.
All those trips to Washington looking for that free money just hasn't happened has it ? Sure we will get a taste of that money but Greenville will not benefit anymore than any other rural city because our Mayor had lunch with Obama at Bucks or went to the inaguration etc.
Clean this city up for starters both cosmetically as well as getting the criminals off the street. Don't allow hot dog stands and sno cone stands painted yellow or green to exist; set some rules and lets get homes painted ,grass cut and shacks torn down. You have to start somewhere and a good place to start is to clean this crappy looking place up. Go look at some clean cities close to us and see what they do to keep it that way. See how they enforce the law etc. I know it is about a 100 miles away but it is happening and that is why you see building and new business in these areas. They are clean and safe ! Get Greenville clean and get rid of the undesirables who refuse to work and Greenville will once again attract business and doctors and tourism.

Exactly! Greenville should not be competing for medical services with Jackson. However, the idiot that is leading our hospital into the land of no return to be sold to a for profit company doesn't think so! DRMC should stay a hometown hospital and provide great BASIC care and leave the specialties to the big boys. Heart hosptial -- whatta joke! Its like a ghost town down there!

The posters on this blog have spent too much time criticizing DRMC and its administration, including people who have been gone for many months, this is nothing more than a mechanism for gossip, and as I understand it incorrect.
The original poster attempted to point out a positive experience in the ED, and it did not take long for others to attempt to tear that down. What about solutions more than "run Ray Humphreyes and Alphe Wells out of town"? How realistic is that? Or do you simply like to wallow in negativity and hatred??

Anonymous said...

I agree with Anonymous 9:35. I am not among those who read the blog and chime in with ways to tear down Greenville and its one remaining hospital. (A major employer, by the way.) This is not a place for gossip, in my opinion. It could be a forum for constructive ideas to IMPROVE and enhance our town. And the comment that "It may sound racial [sic] but the truth is that no Delta town will move forward under a majority black leadership" is just RACIST, at best, even if the poor soul who wrote it doesn't realize it. I am a white woman, born in a very conservative environment, but to say that no African-American can effectively govern is blatantly racist (not racial!).

Let's focus on solutions that don't tear down other people, that build bridges instead of destroy them. There are many things to love about Washington County and Greenville if you will open your eyes and your hearts.

(Just a note for above comment)

She wrote (I am a white woman, born in a very conservative environment, but to say that no African-American can effectively govern is blatantly racist.

Rebuttle : Give me a example in the Ms Delta where a predominant black council or board has effectively moved any city forward and i will gladly eat crow !

Oh and by the way i am a Black Female ! That it makes a difference !

Anonymous said...

To 10:00: If you are indeed a Black Female, you are a Black Female in dire need of an education. It's "rebuttal" and "predominantly." And your closing sentence makes no sense. Try again.

I don't care if they are purple, striped, or polka dotted. Let's just get some qualified and ethical people in the leadership roles (city government & hospital)that are financially astute and responsible, and give a damn about our community and not their own personal gain.

Forthright,
You are right! Healthcare money should be spent at the bedside. However, the first thing you must have is a patient bed to do that! Has anyone noticed the condition of the hospital beds at DRMC? Multiple complaints to the directors and administration have apparently fallen on deaf ears. Yea...today a helicopter, tomorrow a Lear jet for the "Leadership Team". And the beat goes on....

FYI

An ambulance ride is pretty pricey these days. $783.00.

A trip to ER
ER $641.00
Lab $295.00
Pharmacy $299.75

Total $1235.75 minimum

Just so you know.

Did anyone see the fantastic article about Simmons High in the DDT? 6 students in the Latin class taking home awards in a nation-wide contest... They outperformed their Washington School peers on the National Latin Exam. It's true that the public school system in the Delta leaves much to be desired, but that doesn't mean there aren't wonderful things happening in these schools as well each day!

Anonymous said...

No, they did NOT outscore their WS peers (who are all 8th graders, by the way). WS did not call the DDT and report their scores, as it's not newsworthy if it's something that occurs year after year. Don't assume that just because WS wasn't mentioned that they performed poorly. That's a mistaken assumption! Perhaps the DDT felt it was newsworthy to report on Simmons since it is a new program this year. Hopefully the students can continue their Latin studies after the Teach For America instructor leaves and the experiment is over.

Anonymous said...

I'll bet the teach for America teacher will have acquired a whole new language by the time he/she leave Simmons!

Anonymous said...

WS rules!!!! I'll gladly pay my $60,000 to avoid the Greenville public schools. If it means I can't buy a new car or live on Lake Lee than so be it. My children are my most important priority.

Anonymous said...

Omigosh! WS kids score high on that Latin exam year after year! And they are just 8th graders! Competing with high schoolers! And the cool thing is: every WS student is required to take Latin. It's been that way since 1969.
