I saw a young man walking down the street recently. He was wearing a T-shirt and shorts and shoes. His T-shirt was un-tucked, much the way I wear my T-shirts. But that’s where our fashion similarities end.
I had to do a double-take because I couldn't’t believe my eyes. Between the bottom of his T-shirt and the top of his shorts was a pair of spindly legs. It was extreme sogginess to be sure; or perhaps a cure for extreme jock itch.
He was also waddling like a duck, or the way a baby walks after he makes a deposit in his diapers. In his defense, though, I’d say that his feet were splayed (with each step, at that!) to prevent his shorts from sliding to his ankles and tripping himself. It’s more of a functionary motion than, say the “Keep on Truckin’” strut, which back in the day, was all form over function.
But the main reason he walked that way is he did not slyly utilize either of his hands to hold the shorts in place. When one’s pants have not a belt, or the appearance thereof, it is proper saggy etiquette to hold up the article of clothing seemingly succumbing to gravity as inconspicuously as possible.
Not this guy. His arms just swung at his side during his effort-ridden attempt at a casual stroll as daylight peeped between his shirt and shorts. It’s difficult to walk with your shorts around your thighs. Really, I felt sorry for the guy. Trying so hard to look cool, yet failing miserably. Unless, the innate struggle to keep covered while sagging is part of the fashion statement’s statement.
I’m very well aware the saggy look is simply a style of some sort. Still, like mood rings, tube tops and Kriss Kross, I just don’t get it. Ok, I got tube tops.Still, I do not think there should be a law to address the saggy situation because I believe you can’t legislate fashion, or willful ignorance of common sense when it comes to dress. Heck, I’m all for mini-skirts and revealing blouses — preferably at the same time.
Anyway, I really couldn’t care less if sagging is based on the dubious rumor of jailhouse attire. No matter where the style came from, quite frankly, it’s utterly ridiculous. I mean, has anyone, like say these guys’ girlfriends, told their guys just how absolutely goofy they look waddling down the street?
Part of me wants to warn these young men that, like over-sized bell bottoms and platform shoes in the days of yore, that one day they’ll realize, too, just how absolutely dim-witted they look. I know, I sound like my dad.
However, despite myself and in an effort to understand, I tried on this post-pubescent fashion statement in the privacy of my own home. My pants on the down low, I walked to and fro, with and without a sly hand. I found it uncomfortable and totally inconvenient. It reminded me of trying to get to the phone (before cell phones) when otherwise preoccupied.
But I did feel a certain swagger as I reached for my cell phone in one pocket and car keys in the other, both relocated around my knees.
I think that everyone in the Delta has observed this "fashion statement" with equal curiosity and disdain. Purple hair...okay, pierced everything... sure it's a statement about your individuality, but who the hell wants to see your underwear?
I too, have observed the"duck-walk" among these fashion-plates in a usually unsuccessful attempt to keep their pants from eventually falling to their ankles. Recently, a young man entered my place of business to request a job application. As he bent over to sign-in, his pants dropped to his ankles. Undisturbed, he continued to sign-in before readjusting his trousers.
How do these buffoons not realize how stupid they look...walking around in public holding their groins in an attempt to keep their pants up? Okay, perhaps it is intended to make a statement about themselves? Well, it does and the statement is, "I am a moron!
Greenville is full of "ghetto-fabulous" citizens who want to make statements, from their custom painted "whoopee-rides" to their stereos blaring obscenities in public places... from their $150 nail jobs clutching EBT cards, to their cultural house color palettes announcing their arrival in your neighborhood!
I am not a fan of stereotypes, but we have all witnessed this fashion faux pas throughout the Delta and it is hard for me to believe that the participants want to be anything other than members of the "gang"!

I blame the mothers and fathers (if they know who their father is) for letting them out of the house sagging. But mostly, I blame the parents for letting the kids buy the pants three sizes too large.
8:01 AM
And it's not like the clothing are "hand me downs"...that they will "grow into"!
These are "name brand", expensive, new, deliberately bought in the wrongful "too large" size.
Or perhaps...they KNOW that Mississippi is the "fat" state and are stocking up on their wardrobe,...after gorging themselves on food from EBT cards!
The people in the Law enforcement industry love the
"saggy pants". It makes their job, oh so easier!
A person with "saggy pants" can't run and is easily caught and handcuffed!
Tacky! Offensive! Bulley!
And THEY "dare" anyone to say anything to THEM about THEIR attire!
Just another form of intimidation!
If an "adult white male" was walking around dressed
like that...you and I both KNOW...that sh*t would "hit the fan"!
THEY and their "mamas" would scream
discrimination, sexual offense, and file a lawsuit!
Gives/shows the "literal" meaning of..."showing his a**"!
Didn't THE mayor...pass a law about this issue?
Is it NOT enforced?
Why bother making laws...if the aren't enforced?
Problem?
to 9:22 am post...I remember when City Council discussed the sagging issue and Councilman Kenny Gines said that it was not an issue that the City should deal with because he makes sure his daughter is dressed properly when she goes out and that all parents should do the same. So Council decided it was against the kid's Constitutional Rights to tell him how to dress. But on the other hand, there are several other cities across the nation that have addressed this issue and have made it an ordinance to not wear sagging pants.
Sagging pants
Blaring car stereos
Phoney car inspection stickers
Bogus Handicapped car tags
Open drug deals
Smoking "blounts" in pubic to diguise pot
Public indecency
Pulbic intoxication
Unpaid tickets and fines
Sexually trasmitting diseases (knnowingly)
Falsifying information to public officials
Deceiving the census takers
Shoplifting
Forgery
Tax and Welfare fraud
Prostitution
Immorality
Babies are by-products of fun
Lie your way out of any situation
Always blame someone else
Hedonism
Nepotism
Everyone owes you
Total irresponsibility
It is never your fault
I just felt like making this list.
Oh.. I always thought this sagging was because they got there clothes from Salvation army and they didn't have the correct size for them. SO these people like this idea of there pants falling off?
When they come in for job apps, with their pants around their ankles and you don't hire them, they sceam discrimination!!!! You didn't hire them because of their color, not because they looked like idiots and would scare customers away.
The Police need to start a special Crack Patrol Unit!
We need to keep our thoughts on how to improve the city and i dislike the saggy pants as much as anyone but we have so many other things we need to address before we even think about laws for pants. Just arrest them for indescent exposure and move on.
Clean up residental and commercial property
The city needs a enforced curfew
Child restraints
Expired tags
Loitering
Loud Music
Insurance Laws enforced
Speed Limits
What i am trying to say is that we can make it so miserable here for the ones who do not want to work and just live on govt assistance they will move on. We can do this with basically the laws and ordinances we already have. Yes there will be inconvienence to us all but the end result will be good. If we eliminate the one's who hang out on corners, stay out past 10 at night, cannot ride without loud music and have to take care of their property, we will be on a road to recovery. This is for black and white citizens alike.
Will it be done ? Probably not ! Will it work ? Yes it will !
It's the price we pay for letting G'ville get this far. Now it's too late to stop it from spiraling further into the pit. It's the culture and 80% of G'ville is of that culture thinking it's cool to look this way. It's up to the older blacks to do some butt kicking when they see this in public. A good swift kick in the butt by their elders would work wonders. I'll bet that the older blacks don't like it as much as most whites. They are the ones that need to step up and correct these young men.
It's really hard to believe that Mr. Cross doesn't have better issues to tackle than this passing FAD.
He does but he is too liberal to see them as problems.
I basically agreed with Mr. Forthright. It was only when I read the first reply as to whether they knew who their fathers were I was just turned off. Really good ideas could be promoted, but its the choice of wording and the deliberate attempt to insult a race of people with something that does not apply to everyone of them that just turns people off.

Sorry, but, most of the time...the TRUTH does hurt.
However, that does NOT mean, that one needs to "just turn a blind eye"...and ignore it.
This blog is ALL about "truth"!
If the "truth"..."turns you off"...then perhaps you need to find another blog to read!
Sorry!

Read the article/interview with Collin Powell about Africian American fathers.
He EVEN mentions "saggy" pants!
to 7:50 PM post: Great article!
www.cnn.com/2009/Living/11/02/black.men.colin.powell/index.html
LEMON(interviewer): "Did you have any Africian-American role models? What did they teach you?"
POWELL: "They were, first and foremost, my family. When I was a young kid, born in Harllem, raised in the Bronx, it was my family that taught me how to behave, taught me what they expected of me, gave me a sense of shame and told me to 'mind'. It's a word that's not used enough anymore."
.....POWELL: "The only thing that counts is performance. You can't perform if you don't get your education. You can't perform if you don't speak the English language well. You can't perform if you're not respectful. You can't perform and you won't get the opportunity to perform if you walk around wilth your pants dragging around your ankles and you're not behaving in a proper manner."
Do I hear an "AMEN!"?
This is whats wrong with the Obama way of thinking and his Czars he has put in charge. The democrats are pushing us way beyond what our forefathers wanted our country to be. They left Europe to start a new way for us not to be ruled by someone only interested in their way. Not by the way of our forefathers that built this country as a God fearing nation.
This should wake you up and think.
'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics.. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Racial disparity: All active ethics probes focus on black lawmakers
The House ethics committee is currently investigating seven African-American lawmakers — more than 15 percent of the total in the House. And an eighth black member, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), would be under investigation if the Justice Department hadn’t asked the committee to stand down.
Not a single white lawmaker is currently the subject of a full-scale ethics committee probe.
The ethics committee declined to respond to questions about the racial disparity, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus are wary of talking about it on the record. But privately, some black members are outraged — and see in the numbers a worrisome trend in the actions of ethics watchdogs on and off Capitol Hill.
“Is there concern whether someone is trying to set up [Congressional Black Caucus] members? Yeah, there is,” a black House Democrat said. “It looks as if there is somebody out there who understands what the rules [are] and sends names to the ethics committee with the goal of going after the [CBC].”
African-American politicians have long complained that they’re treated unfairly when ethical issues arise. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are still fuming over Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to oust then-Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) from the House Ways and Means Committee in 2006, and some have argued that race plays a role in the ongoing efforts to remove Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) from his chairmanship of that committee.
The committee — which has one African-American lawmaker, Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.), among its 10 members — on Thursday considered three referrals from the recently formed Office of Congressional Ethics. It dismissed a case against Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), who is white, but agreed to open full-blown investigations of California Democratic Reps. Maxine Waters and Laura Richardson, both of whom are black.
The committee was already investigating five other African-Americans. Rangel is the subject of two different probes, one involving a host of issues he has put before the committee and another involving allegations that corporate funds may have been used improperly to pay for members’ trips to the Caribbean in 2007-08. Reps. Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-Mich.), Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Donald Payne (D-N.J.) and Del. Donna Christensen (D-U.S. Virgin Islands) are also included in the second of those investigations.
A document leaked to The Washington Post last week showed that nearly three dozen lawmakers have come under scrutiny this year by either the House ethics committee or the Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent watchdog created in 2008 at the insistence of Pelosi. While the list contained a substantial number of white lawmakers, the ethics committee has not yet launched formal investigative subcommittees with respect to any of them — as it has with the seven African-American members.
The OCE has also been a particular target of ire for the Congressional Black Caucus. Black lawmakers, including CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), met with OCE officials earlier this year to raise their concerns. Spokesmen for Lee and the OCE both declined to comment.
A number of CBC members opposed the resolution establishing the OCE, arguing that it was the wrong response to the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, which helped Democrats seize control of the House in 2006.
Setting up the OCE “was a mistake,” Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) told The Hill newspaper recently. “Congress has a long and rich history of overreacting to a crisis.”
Cleaver, though, now finds himself part of the four-member subcommittee that will investigate Waters, who voted against the OCE. Waters is being probed over her intervention with the Treasury Department on behalf of a minority-owned bank in which her husband served on the board and owned at least $250,000 in stock.
While she has flatly denied engaging in any unethical or improper behavior in her dealings with OneUnited, Waters was described by colleagues and Democratic aides as “livid” over the ethics committee’s decision to investigate her.
“She was hopping mad,” a Democratic lawmaker said of Waters. “She feels this is a complete miscarriage of justice.”
Another CBC member said black lawmakers are “easy targets” for ethics watchdog groups because they have less money — both personally and in their campaign accounts — to defend themselves than do their white colleagues. Campaign funds can be used to pay members’ legal bills.
“A lot of that has to do with outside watchdog groups like [Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington] that have to have a level of success to justify OCE,” the CBC member said. The good-government groups were strong backers of the OCE’s creation.
But these same groups won’t go after Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), this lawmaker claimed, “because she has plenty of money to defend herself,” and the outside groups don’t want to take a risk. The Democrat said the ethics committee would be going up against Harman’s lawyers and “going up against” the powerful American Israel Public Affairs Committee if they push the OCE to pressure the ethics committee to act.
Harman was allegedly recorded on a 2005 federal wiretap discussing with an Israeli operative her bid to become Intelligence Committee chairwoman. Harman has denied any wrongdoing, but an attempt by the ethics committee to get a transcript of the taped call was rebuffed by the Justice Department.
What especially galled black lawmakers was that the ethics committee voted to move forward with the Waters and Richardson probes following the OCE referrals, while Graves — who OCE also thought should be investigated by the ethics committee — saw his case dismissed.
Even worse, the ethics committee issued a 541-page document explaining why it wouldn’t look into allegations that Graves invited a witness to testify before the Small Business Committee — on which he sits — without revealing his financial ties to that witness.
“It is kind of crazy,” said an aide to one senior black Democrat. “How can it be that the ethics committee only investigates African-Americans? It doesn’t make sense.”
White lawmakers have certainly been the subject of ethics committee investigations before. Former Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) was admonished by the committee for his dealings with corporate lobbyists, while ex-Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) was the target of an investigation over his dealings with teenage male House pages in late 2006. Foley resigned after the sex scandal was revealed.
And the document leaked to the Post last week shows that a number of white lawmakers — including senior House Appropriations Committee members John Murtha (D-Pa.), Pete Visclosky (D-Ind.), Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.) and Jim Moran (D-Va.) — have drawn the attention of the committee and the OCE.
The two congressional ethics watchdogs are looking into these members’ ties to the PMA Group, a now-defunct lobbying firm that won tens of millions of dollars in earmarks from members of the Appropriations Committee. The lawmakers who arranged for the earmarks received hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from PMA’s lobbying clients.
But it seems unlikely that the PMA case will become the subject of a full-blown ethics committee investigation. The Justice Department is also looking into the PMA allegations; the FBI raided PMA’s office last year, and Visclosky and his former chief of staff have been served with document subpoenas. And under ethics committee rules, the panel cannot conduct an investigation of any member or staffer already being probed by a law enforcement agency.
The nation’s only black senator, Roland Burris of Illinois, is currently under investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee. It’s not clear whether that committee is currently investigating any white members, although Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) is likely to be in its sights if the Justice Department doesn’t pre-empt a committee investigation.

I do not think that the “overwhelming majority” (53 percent is overwhelming?) of American voters had any idea that the “fundamental change” Mr. Obama promised was to “transform” (his words) this nation from capitalism (and the wealthiest nation on earth) to socialism (one where we are all equally poor).
He was not forthright in warning the American people of his intentions to surround himself in the White House with self-proclaimed socialist and Marxist “Czars” who were not vetted by Congress.
I further believe that even his strongest supporters here in the Mississippi Delta are unaware that “spreading the wealth” means spreading America’s wealth to other nations as well — and not just among the folks who put him in office.
As you quoted: “Don’t get stuck on stupid.” Maybe that’s why America’s standing in the world has done a 180 since January of this year (especially among our enemies, since he’s insulted or dumped most of our friends).
I also doubt very seriously that those who leap for joy at the promise of $500 given to each new baby born (supposedly to start a savings account), along with all the other “gifts” from the government, have any idea about where all this money is coming from. We are borrowing it — multiple trillions of dollars — from China.
The oil-producing countries in the Middle East are dumping our dollars. As China observes us digging ourselves deeper and deeper into our pit of debt, do you think they are really so stupid as to continue loaning us money we cannot pay back? The United States does not manufacture much anymore — and if the government were to seize all the wealth of wealthy Americans — it still could not pay off the trillions of accumulated debt.
Yes, congratulations to Mr. Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize, which was given to him because he continually apologizes for being an American, promises to weaken our defenses and continues to weaken our economy in the name of “global warming.”
While we’re at it, let’s congratulate the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Mr. Al Gore, who is using $529 million of our tax dollars to build high-end cars in Finland, while here at home our jobless rate continues to soar.
I’m sure you can see why such men are admired by the Norwegian socialists, while here at home they are subject to “pathetic, trivial, and incredibly immature drivel” by those of us who will have to foot the bill. I applaud your “Nobel” idealistic rhetoric.
The last 5 or 6 posts are well worth reading. It's too bad that the majority that now rules G'ville can't read or understand it probably. They are quite content just the way G'ville is and would never want to change their free ride. Thats why we (G'ville )are the poorest part of the country and always will be.They don't care or want to be better. They aren't stupid, just look at the ways they have figured out to work the welfare system and get away with stealing billions of dollars each year. They want more and with our great new leader(Obama) they are sure to get it and more.
OK, 99.9% percent of the people who post on this blog are confirmed racists. Verifiable? No. But comments seem to indicate such.
Along those same lines, 80% of the posters seem to be illiterate AND/OR totally oblivious to the good will that President Obama has earned for the USA since taking office. ("....why America’s standing in the world has done a 180 since January of this year [especially among our enemies, since he’s insulted or dumped most of our friends]...) Oh my. One-eighty is right....he has made it safe for us to step foot out of our own country without doing so in disguise! Our collective reputation has improved in the world view BIG TIME since he took office.
I do wish people wouldn't use venues such as this blog to spread the garbage in their minds.
YOU...ARE...PART...OF...THE...PROBLEM. If you want to see improvement, work to make it happen. Stop issuing your poison.
And yes: once again, I must state (for clarification) that I am caucasian. Not on welfare. Employed. Pay taxes. Christian.
These "ignorant" SOBs are laughing all the way to the bank (check cashing store) to collect YOUR tax dollars. No one in the Delta is starving or doesn't have access to free housing or health care. They sit on their ass and make babies ($$$$) and teach each other how to milk the system. It is an abomination of our democracy to allow these parasites to ruin our country. Get over the slavry excuse... neither you nor your parents, or grandparents were slaves!
8:23 You are welcome to step outside this country anytime you want. Since it is so safe ,why don't you stay wherever you decide to go.Just ask all the Americans that have been kidnapped in other countries how safe it is. READ THIS AND TRY TO OPEN YOUR MIND.This is what the Obama people support.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.. A vote for Obama is a vote for the destruction of this country. He's going to change it alright. But you aren't going to like it.Just wait and see if we continue to let him and his Czars point us in the direction of socialism.
Just look at the results of the elections in Virginia and New Jersey. They have spoken about the ways of the Obama direction and its only been a year since being elected president.
What is the mayor of Greenville doing about anything here in this city other than making a bunch of empty promises. I was born here in 1971, and I left here in 1987. I came back in 2009 and this place hasn't improved one bit. I was so embarrassed and ashamed when I returned. The potholes are ridiculous and its like no one even cares at all. After being gone for 22 years, I really expected to see a change. Everything is still the same if not worse. Since I've been back I noticed that the people here that could make a difference have an attitude that they dont care about anything. There are more weed houses, crack houses, and meth labs here than any big city in the country. These are the only jobs that the people seem to have here. I am so upset because there are no job opportunities here and never will be if this continues. The streets need to be reconstructed and some of these empty, rundown houses have no business standing. The main highways need shoulders for stranded motorists. And the water is just awful. This town doesn't even have Code Enforcement. The casinos are a joke and aren't contributing anything to G'ville to make it better that I can see. It is pitiful. Greenville is so depressing. Most of the people here that could make a difference seem to be just greedy, selfish, rude, and have an attitude towards the normal citizen, that doesn't seem to be considered their kind.Like they are better than most of us. Someone has to do something to give this city a major, long over due make over and an attitude adjustment. And it needs to happen fast. There are too many people around here thats doing a whole bunch of nothing and G'ville is going nowhere fast.
9:05 Why did you come back to Greenville after being away for 22 years? Once you come back, it is hard to leave again. Believe me, I did the same thing as you did and now I am stuck.
10:18 I had to come back to take care of my mom. If she was in better shape I would have taken her out of G'ville but she wanted to stay here and die. I am not looking forward for her to pass on one day but as soon as she does, I will be gone so fast from here it will make your head swim. Luckily I can go back to where I found a much better place to live and pickup where I left off. This time when I leave this hell hole I will have no reason to ever return.Good luck to all of you that THINK you are stuck here. It just takes GUTS and CONFIDENCE in yourself to make the move.
Who said that about Obama's goodwill? If he gets his way we all will be shopping at the GoodWill!!!!
dissing obama is so obnoxious, self-righteous and so obviously partisan and racist ... the account by the person who wrote nailed it: "OK, 99.9% percent of the people who post on this blog are confirmed racists. Verifiable? No. But comments seem to indicate such."
did any of you whiners ever complain about the previous president who put this country and the world in the position we're in?
i'd imagine not. all you do is blame everything on blacks and obama - what have you done to help the situation locally? if you have so much disdain for g'ville, why don't you leave?
and like the person who wrote what i quoted, i am a taxpaying white person who is not a christian because i imagine all of you racists who write here probably are...
All of you that have never lived anywhere but Greenville have no idea what the world is really like. There is a world out there totally different than this town. Thank God I have lived all over this country and in Germany. I am not racist, but I find that there is more racism in all races here. It is bad enough to make one racist. Just accept the fact that we live here and can only make our own lives happy. Nobody nor another town can make you gain happiness. It comes from within. Give up on the losers and let them lose. Support the winners and we all win.
Be happy with what you have in life or change it to make it better. Like someone said "you can't fix stupid".
any white person who says anything negative about obama is considered racist. why can't i just dislike him bec. of what he stands for w/out being called a racist?
6:16 How stupid can you be? The presidents before Obama didn't take over corporations and tell them what they were going to do. He didn't fire the CEO's of corporatons because they didn't like his rules of take over. The last president or any of the ones before Obama never did any of these things or wouldn't even think of it. Why hasn't Obama shown his birth certificate or let us see his passports from years past? Why doesn't he let us see his college transcripts? All the presidents before him were an open book when it came to those things.
I thought Obama stood for transparancy in his gov't? WAKE UP STUPID and look around before you can't even enjoy your basic freemdoms. Ask those that fled Cuba or other foreign countries. They will tell you that we are headed straight to socialism. Obama has used up his time for blaming everything on Bush.I thought he said he could fix it. Well, how is he doing so far? Even the media that supported him have begun to say WHAT THE HELL HAVE WE DONE? Look what has happened in the recent elections in New Jersey and Virginia. Obama spent the last month there trying to convince the people to vote his way. Well, the people have spoken and there are many more surprises coming next year during elections. Even his own party has begun to pull back from his policies. Why you ask? Because they want to stay in congress by being elected for their next term. They know if they keep turning their heads the people will vote them out.
You can tell it's almost time for holiday shopping. Just start watching the DDT and you can tell it is just around the corner by seeing all the robberies being reported.
Robberies and burglaries keep GPD on run

GREENVILLE — A recent crime spree is keeping the Greenville Police Department busy.
As always those that think they can just take whatever they want are soon to be out and about preying on those that aren't paying attention on whats going on around them.
Be alert these holidays and report any suspicious activity when you spot it.
And since when has the DDT stopped giving the full subscription of those that are doing these dirty deeds. Now it seems like we get what they are wearing and thats all. How are we suppose to help in stopping them if we don't know if they are white or black? Or are we all suppose to just know or assume what they are? Come on DDT print the whole description of the suspect.
Hey 11:16,
You know why they don't print the full discription. It is because they are scared they will be called racist! But they sure could give us a clue if they would printsomthing like this...
Male suspect with his pants around his ankles. MMMM wonder if he might be........
The police need your help in finding the following robbery suspect. Sorry but we can't tell you if they are black or white, female or male, cause that might not be politicaly correct.
but please help us find the person, your life might depend on it.
8:50 p.m. is intelligent and makes a good case. you can tell he has lived in other places.
10:53 a.m., on the other hand, is polar opposite. sounds very bitter and his name-calling suggests a 14-16 year old. you can also tell he drank the rush/beck cool-aide w/his rant about obama's birth certificate. god help us.
anyway,no doubt ronnie reagan is one of your other heroes (besides bush). don't forget, he fired the air traffic controllers. talk about gov't taking over...
if you're old enough to drive, 10:53 a.m., try getting out of town sometime. it really is a very big world out there.
again, god help us...
Um...I'se ignunt. What was all that about?
We is in Big Trouble if the Big Minds of Greenville is this dumb.
6:56 You are showing how stupid you still are. He didn't fire the air traffic controllers. They were all on strike and he replaced them in order to keep the plane industry from going bankrupt. As soon as he started replacing them the strike quickly ended. DUHHH!
Who is limbaugh or beck? I don't need anyone to show me how Obama is trying to take over the country.
Do you realize Obama has taken over 38% of American business and is run by him and his Czars.Obama doesn't know how to run anything. He has never run a business or even wriiten a bill in congress. So tell me how you think he is qualified to run the greatest country in the world. Now if he gets his way with his ridiculous healthcare Obama and his Czars will control 48% of Americas economy. How much more do you want? Get ready to start learning how to goose step in parades like Russia and Germany in the 30's and 40's.
I don't know about you but I don't think America has done to bad for the last 200 years. I like it just the way it is.
And now unemployment just hit 10.3% this morning. He said just a few months ago that it will not get over 8% under his watch.Where are all the jobs he promised us? And thats just an average of the unemployment. There are lots of states 15% or more unemployment. The worse it has been in America in 30 years or more.
You need to start thinking with your head instead of letting your emotions get in the way.
6:56 What if I was to tell you 8:50 and 10:53 are one in the same. Gosh your dumb.
The number of vacant, state-owned properties in Washington County, which according to Mayor Heather McTeer Hudson is the largest number in any one county in Mississippi. Washington County now has 10 percent of Mississippi’s state-owned properties, she said.
“We just happen to have more than anybody else in the state,” Hudson said at a recent council meeting after city planning director Carlon Williams outlined the plan. “We have an extraordinary amount of abandoned homes in Greenville.”
Washington County reportedly has the largest number of abandoned properties in the state.
What else is new? More good news for G'ville. How is this Obama leadership working for ya? NOT TOO GOOD IT LOOKS LIKE TO ME.
Who’ll protect us from Congress?

To the editor:
Fasten your seat belts, folks!
The government (White House, Senate, House of Representatives) are driving our country’s automobile at top speed into National Health Care even though they know that down the road the bridge is out.
For example, House of Representatives Bill H.R. 3962. If it is passed, it will not solve any health care problems, but it will needlessly hurt a lot of people.
U.S. Representative Rangel recently requested CBO (Congressional Budget Office) to crunch some numbers for H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act.
In its preliminary analysis letter to him, CBO noted that H.R. 3962 is designed to require individuals to purchase health insurance. Hello? Require? As in MUST? That’s not right!
It gets worse.
H.R. 3962 also has a provision that in many cases a financial penalty could be imposed on people who did not buy it. Hello, again? And I’ll bet you thought this was still a free country.
If members of our Congress can take away our freedom of choice, which freedom will they next take from us?
A warning to high-income individuals; better find a good hiding place for your money (not under the mattress) because H.R. 3962 would hit you with an income tax surcharge. How about that? You’re honest, you worked hard, you became rich and for that you’ll be financially punished by your own government.
Are you ready to start goose stepping, and learning to sing praise to Obama?
y'all just love that kool-aide, don't ya...
Fermos is officially closed for good.
Why did Fermos close?
I am not surprised. The food's price/qualiy ratio was very high and getting worse. Also, among other things, chicken wings, catfish and fried cheesecake should never be part of an italian restaurant menu.
I am not surprised. The food's price/qualiy ratio was very high and getting worse. Also, among other things, chicken wings, catfish and fried cheesecake should never be part of an italian restaurant menu.
So...NOW..where does one go for good Italian food?
6:03 Only place left is Lillo's in Leland.
What a shame that a once thriving restaurant is now closed. There is no place left to eat in Greenville. It is a fast food city and some of those are in trouble. When KFC closes, someone remember to turn off the lights!
Lillo's is another italian food assasination. The only reason it does well is because their patrons don't have the slightest clue of what italian food is.
You are in big trouble when your few remaining businesses are sponsoring tours of the cemetary! Boy, that ought to attract tourists!
Great news about Bass! Tim Bixler needs to begin writing an original play... "The Decline and Fall of Greenville, MS". Thank God I got out of there years ago! I haven't been back since and probably never will. Friends there tell me it gets worse every day.
There are many good people in Greenville who just need to surrender. The war is over and you lost. Don't waste the rest of your life waiting for a miracle... get out and regain your life!
Well the sad part about Fermos, is the guy was sitting on a gold mine and blew it...literally! All that money invested in the several remodels, he had a nice atmosphere going. But, it does not matter how pretty it is, if the service and food are not as good or better, it will fail. He had the business for quite a while, then it all fell apart after his divorce. What a shame. Posecai's, Sherman's, Gus', and Anna Casey's and a very few other places are all we have left for better dining, besides fast food. I seriously miss How Joy. That chinese place on 82 and the one in the Kroger shopping center don't even come close to How Joy's best days of dining.
I guess we all will have to start driving to Cleveland or over the bridge to Lake Village to the Cow Pen or Lake Shore more often now.
Hey, 7:44---
**** *** and the horse you rode in on!
You don't get it! The quality of life in a town has everything to do with what you bring to it. Yes, Fermo's went down because the owner had personal issues---not due to the local economy. But your sour attitude (and your "I got outta here" comments) don't do anything productive. Why do you continue to check in, if you are so happily ensconced elsewhere? ]
You and your wanna-still-be-in-Greenville-but-we-wimped-out jerks who are critical of those of us who are riding out the wave can just EAT IT.
I agree 10:36!
Fermos went down because of mismanagement by it's owner--plain and simple.
Exactly! Initially his place was the best place in town to dine for reasonable prices, good service and a pleasant, inviting atmosphere. The demand for that is still here! He just screwed up and let it slip out of his hands, by not taking care of his business/customers! That plan fails even in the best of economies.
Fermo's was run into the ground by the owner, absolutely. It is a shame, that was one of my favorite places to eat once upon a time. We went there this summer and it was disgusting. Not just that the food didn't taste good, it was rancid. It is a shame.
When your profits go up your nose...your business will end.
The quality of the food in local restaurants is just not there. On top of that, the prices are too high. Wherever you travel in these "recession" days, you come accross restaurants that have promotions or special menus to adjust to the present situation. Every time you go out to eat in Greenville (except for fast food or maybe El Toro), you feel like you are spending a fortune and for very ordinary food. If this slow economy lingers, as it is predicted, places like Sherman's and Posecai's will have to adapt or will also find themselves in trouble.
Posecai's needs to close... it is the worst food I have ever eaten and the oysters were rotten. The bill was over $100 for 2 and the the steak was nothing but salt. I would rather go to Shermans, where the food is still good.
Sherman's is doing just fine and so is Doe's Eat Place. Pass by Sherman's during lunch and dinner hours and they are packed! Doe's is always booming at night, too!
We have two good restaurants in Greenville: Doe's and Gino's!
Fermo's:
Wasn't there an article in the DDT,
promoting FERMO's bar area and line of exotic drinks, and steaks several years ago?
Did the owner "drink" his profits?
To restaurant owners in the Delta: I would love to buy your desserts. I do NOT want a thawed Sysco special. You are missing a lot of profits by limiting your offerings to the same thing as every other Sysco restaurant in town!
Can you clue us in?
What does THE Sysco "menu" consist of?
If you want a "good" dessert, call Dianne. Sorry, but I can't remember her last name. She makes the best homemade cakes and pies.
Her family used to have the Venetian Cafe years ago.
Find her,and she'll make the ALL of your holiday desserts.
Call the beauty salon...A Cut Above...and ask Frank for her phone number (and last name!)
They (A Cut Above) know everyone!LOL!
"Sysco" is the "Schwanns" for restaurants. Frozen foods delivered. It's not all bad, but it is all the same!
