Say It Ain't So, Ray!

Michael Arthur Newdow (born June 24, 1953) is an American attorney and emergency medicine physician. He is best known for his efforts to have recitations of the current version of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools in the United States declared unconstitutional because of its inclusion of the phrase "under God". He also filed and lost a law suit to stop the invocation prayer at President Bush's second inauguration and, most recently, he filed a lawsuit to prevent references to God and religion from being part of President Obama's inauguration.

Newdow is an
atheist and an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church. In 1997, he started an organization called FACTS (First Amendment Church of True Science), which advocates strong separation of church and state in public institutions.
Personal background:

Newdow grew up in the
Bronx and Teaneck, New Jersey, from where his nominally Jewish family moved in 1960. He graduated from Teaneck High School. He told Brown Alumni Magazine that he can’t remember ever believing in God, saying, "I was born an atheist."
After graduating from high school, Newdow attended Brown University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1974. He then attended the UCLA medical school, earning his M.D. in 1978. He has worked as an emergency room physician at numerous hospitals, and holds medical licenses in California and five other states.

Newdow later enrolled in the University of Michigan law school, earning a law degree in 1988. He took and passed the bar exam in 2002.
Litigation:

Pledge of Allegiance:

Main article: Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow
Newdow is best known for the lawsuit filed on behalf of his daughter against inclusion of the words "under God" in public schools' recitals of the United States' Pledge of Allegiance. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit found that the phrase constitutes an endorsement of religion, and therefore violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. However, the decision was later overruled by the U.S. Supreme Court on procedural grounds, citing that Newdow did not have custody of his daughter and therefore did not have the right to bring suit on her behalf, nor did he meet the Court's prudential standing requirements to bring the suit on behalf of himself.

Newdow filed suit again regarding the same issue, but this time on behalf of three unnamed parents and their children. Citing the
precedent set by the Supreme Court in the course of Newdow's previous suit, U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton ruled that Newdow did not have standing to bring his lawsuit, but the other plaintiffs did have standing. Based on the previous ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the judge ruled that the pledge is unconstitutional when recited in public schools.
After the 9th circuit decision, Newdow received numerous death threats and other abusive messages on his phone answering machine. His daughter, then eight years old, was living elsewhere for her own safety.

In God We Trust:

In November 2005, Newdow announced he wants to have "In God We Trust" removed from U.S. coins and banknotes. In a November 14, 2005 interview with Fox News's Neil Cavuto, Newdow compared "In God We Trust" appearing on United States currency with racial segregation (specifically separate drinking fountains), saying, "How can you not compare those? What is the difference there? Both of them [whites and blacks] got equal water. They both had access. It was government saying that it's okay to separate out these two people on the basis of race. Here we're saying it's okay to separate two people on the basis of their religious beliefs."

In June 2006, a federal judge rejected this lawsuit, on the grounds that the minted words amount to a secular national slogan, and they do not dictate anyone's beliefs. Newdow stated that he would appeal the ruling.

Although, it should be noted that Aronow v. United States was decided on the same grounds in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the lower court was required to return the same ruling, likewise the Ninth Circuit does not traditionally overrule previous Ninth Circuit rulings.

On December 4, 2007, Mr. Newdow argued before a three judge panel of the Ninth Circuit to remove both "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance (Roe v. Rio Linda Union School District), and "In God We Trust" from US currency.

In a 2006 interview on the day that the United States House of Representatives passed the Pledge Protection Act, Newdow told WERS-FM's David Goodman,[citation needed] "A few hours ago, the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America voted 260 to 167 to completely gut the U.S. Constitution of its separation of powers and violate numerous other clauses because they thought it was important enough to keep 'under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance. I don't think people would've done that for our political heritage or anything else. They did it because they want God in their government because it stands for a religious view that they adhere to, and they want to see that religious view espoused by government, which is exactly what the Establishment Clause forbids."

Newdow also filed a lawsuit in
federal court after Franklin Graham gave the invocation at George W. Bush's 2001 inauguration. The lawsuit claimed that inaugural prayer was an unconstitutional endorsement of religion. It also was unsuccessful.

California textbook case:
Newdow also represents California Parents for the Equalization of Educational Materials (CAPEEM), a group that has filed a lawsuit against the officials of California Department of Education and the California State Board of Education. The lawsuit challenges the teaching of biblical events as historical facts and was brought upon by CAPEEM which was formed by Hindu parents in California.

Obama inauguration:

On December 31, 2008, Newdow and 17 other people, plus 10 groups representing atheists, sued Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts and others involved in the inauguration ceremony of Barack Obama. The first count of the suit sought to prevent the Chief Justice from saying "so help me God." The Constitution specifically defines only this single oath of office of 35 words, that do not include these four words.

The Associated Press ran several reports including one picked up by the Washington Post, Yahoo News and many other affiliates that inaccurately stated that the suit was an attempt by atheists to prevent the President from saying "so help me God", while the suit specifically states that the president is not a subject of the injunction, rather it is the Chief Justice.

In addition, in other counts was the demand to end all religious prayer at the inauguration based on the establishment clause of the first amendment, which he had sued to prevent in the two previous inaugurations unsuccessfully.
Federal District Judge Reggie Walton refused to grant Newdow's motion for a preliminary injunction on the basis that he, as a United States District Court Judge, did not feel he had the authority to issue such an order against the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
He also reasoned that the inclusion of such words is an exercise of the incoming President's right of free speech, although the president's right to express his private prayer in words of his choosing was specifically not challenged in the law suit.

Newdow later reported that he would not challenge the denial of his preliminary injunction motion, but will appeal the case through the appellate court.

Well, it seems that no one is willing to confirm that we have the real Dr. Newdow, but he certainly fits the profile. Ray would hire a three-legged dog if it would help him keep his dynasty alive... even if it goes against all of his bible-thumping beliefs!

But...let's not be to hasty to dismiss Newdow as a qualified ER doc. After all, we do support the separation of church and state and during my most recent visit to an ER, the last thing I was thinking about was the Pledge of Allegiance.

Whether your ER Doc is lesbian, Hindu or Atheist, if you are in crisis, you need a skilled physician to keep you alive, so personal belifes quickly becomes a "non-issue". We are in the 21st century and we need to be more tolerant of political and religious views.

When my heart stops beating, I will forego the interview of the person trying to revive me... in hopes that he/she won't ask me the same questions! At the end of the day we are all mortal beings, subject to the same rules of life and death... and we need to remember that!

Mr forthright i respect your opinion about the matter of Mr. Newdows skills as a Medical Doctor. He may be a highly qualified Doctor, but i do not want anybody treating me, touching me or rendering care to me that does not believe in god or a god. I cant control if i am out cold and this man has to render care to me, but i promise you one thing once im coherent he will no longer lay a finger on me or render care. The problem with the world today is people like him that do not believe in god and are always trying to take religion away from the religious. I personally do not go around pushing religion on anybody nor she he go around tryin to push his ways on us. We do not need people like this around anywhere. I hope he goes back to where he came from and never graces the steps of this area again.

I am of the Baptist faith. I do however, have family members and friends that are Catholic, Methodist, Jewish and Church of God.

In the past, I have had co-workers that were Johovah's witnesses.

I respect their religion and they respect mine.

I personally do not know of anyone, nor do I associate with anyone that is an atheist. If I do have contact with someone that is an atheist, it's only because I am not aware of their "non-belief".

And as far as I know,I have not had an association of any one from the Muslim faith.

However, a few weeks ago, two Johovah's witnesses ladies knocked on my door. I answered. They introduced themselves and asked if they could come inside and talk to me about their religion.

    I replied , "No, thank you, I'm a Baptist."

And, then the lady had the nerve to ask, "Do you mind telling me why we can't come inside?"

I replied, "You want people to respect your religion,
but, now, you need to respect my religion. Thank you."

And I closed the door in her face and would have slammed it on her big foot, if she had not moved it so quickly!

I was in my own house, minding my own business, not bothering a soul. She came knocking on my door, on my private property, and then wanted to argue with me.

I started to call the police.

What if you were admitted to the ER after a near fatal auto accident and the ER doc asks your family about your religious beliefs. They respond that you are a Christian of the Baptist faith, to which he responds, "Oh, I don't treat Baptists!"

So you die because of the religious intolerance of others and you believe this is preferable to being treated by an athiest?

If you would conciously refuse qualified treatment from an athiest, why shouldn't the athiest be able to refuse to treat you for your religious views?

If you are willing to die for your religious beliefs, then you are no different from the 911 suicide pilots. They too belived in THEIR god... however sick!

    1. The doctor did not choose a religion.

    2. The doctor did choose to become a licensed doctor.

    3. All doctors take an oath that they must administer medical attention to all properly admitted patients.

    4. Nurses also take the same or a similar oath.

    5. The doctor is required by law to administer care to the properly admitted patient.

    6. The doctor can not refuse treatment to a properly admitted patient.

    7. The patient can refuse treatment, with the properly signed paperwork.

    8. People can choose a religion

    9. People do not choose illnesses.

    10. Under certain private insurance policies, the patient can choose his doctor.

    11. Hospitals do ask a patient's faith.

    12. The reason hospitals ask about a patient's religion is because often, the patient is from out of town and away from their church and preacher.

    13. The hospitals also ask if the patient would like a preacher of their faith to visit during their hospital stay. Again, because of out of towners. This is a courtesy.

    14. Some religions do not believe in certain types of medical care.

    15. My religous beliefs, my future death, nor I.. should never, ever be compared to the 911 pilots.

    16. There is a difference between religous people and whackos.

    17. Thank you for allowing me to put in my two cents worth.

This is a true story. You'll love it.

A man told me once that he heard a knock on his door one Saturday morning. He peeked out and realised that it was the Johovah's witnesses.

He had just awoken and of course, still in his underwear.

He opened the fridge, grabbed a beer, popped the top, stuck a cigarette in his mouth, lit it, and answered the door in his underwear and then he..uh...well, he passed gas, very loudly! :)

They left running and must have marked his house. He hasn't moved and hasn't seen a Johovah's witness
at his door in about 20 years.

Locum, short for the Latin phrase locum tenens, is a person who temporarily fulfills the duties of another. For example, a locum doctor is a doctor who works in the place of the regular doctor when that doctor is absent, or when a hospital/practice is short staffed. These professionals are still governed by their respective regulatory bodies, despite the transient nature of their positions.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has Greenville, MS. documented as having two 'hate' groups on their map, the New Black Panther Party and the Nation of Islam.
Both are black separatist groups. Black separatists typically oppose integration and racial intermarriage, and they want separate institutions-or even a separate nation-for blacks. Most forms of black separatism are strongly anti-white and anti-semitic and a number of religious versions assert that blacks-not Jews-are the Biblical "chosen people" of God.

    Re: 7:07pm & 9:52pm

Why does one assume that a different religious denomination or atheist is even attempting to convert others? Are we so close-minded that we can't respect/understand another's religious views? Is it out of fear of possibly compromising our own beliefs that we belittle other religions. Then maybe your faith / beliefs aren't as conclusive as you think. How can one validate their own religious beliefs with absolutely no knowledge of other doctrines?

Rather than only looking at the differences in religious beliefs, why can't we look at the commonalities (there are many) and at least value and respect those attributes in our diverse religious beliefs.

Oh, and by the way 9:52pm, I don't think any religion, christian or non-christian would condone your verbal abuse of another person expressing an opinion. Why don't you pray on that awhile!

Compromise or reasonable doubt,in one's religion is the FIRST step towards converting to another's religion.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous11:25 AM

    To 10:07

I don't agree that compromising leads to conversion. However, reasonable doubt often does. It is called searching for one's true faith. Generally, people stay in the same religious denomination of their parents. They have never attended or shown any interest in other religious denominations. Their faith is learned behavior, including prejudices and often the rigid beliefs that their religion is the only religion.

    What is faith? Put simply:
    1) Receptiveness to a concept
    2) Accepting the concept mentally
    3) Experiencing realization of that concept by heart, mind, and soul
    4) Then total submission / surrender to those beliefs

If you truly believe heart, mind, and soul in your faith then compromise will not convert your beliefs but it will allow people of different religious beliefs to live together in respectful harmony.

    In answer to 9:33am questions:
    - Catholic (converted from Baptist)
    - There have been very negative remarks about Jehova's Witnesses. Which religion will be criticized next?

Is it the religious beliefs or fanaticism people resent. There are fanatics in all religions. Some can get quite pushy.

To 9:11am: Obama has enough problems to deal with. Let's pray for him too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous12:57 PM

Jehovah's Witnesses, and I must also add, the
Mormans, are both criticized for their "knocking on doors" style of "witnessing". They are very pushy and are tresspassing onto a person's private property to, yes, "push" their religious beliefs on others. The Catholics, nor Baptist do not do this. And frankly, I can't think of another religion that goes
    "door to door".

Door to door salesmen are also
annoying, pushy, and always criticized for their "invasion". And you may as well throw in the
    telemarketers, with this group, also.

No one on this blog has actually
criticized the Jehovah's Witness" faith, but many did have the guts to speak out about their intrusive behavior.

I have known a man for a very long time, whom converted from Baptist to Catholic. During the study of his classes, he was pulled aside, and the instructor of the class actually told him that Baptist were the hardest of all religions to convert to Catholicism because they asked too many questions! He also added that the
majority of all people do NOT believe in their respective religions 100%. Some things they agree with and some things they don't agree with. They average about a 70% belief in their particular religion's doctrines.

As a Baptist, would I be allowed to enter your church and take communion? If I did attend your church, would my prayers also be accepted? I would be praying directly
to God and not to a Saint, would my prayers be heard, according to the Catholic church?Would my total submersion baptistism be accepted? No, but I could go down to the alter, kneel, hold my crossed arms against my chest, and the priest would bless me.

So it is the pushy intrusion you resent, not the religion. Good for you!

Now, without starting a war on religions, let's correct some of the misconceptions about the Catholic religion.

Baptists and any other religious groups are very welcome to attend any Catholic Church. There are many that do attend Catholic services.

Your own religious beliefs prevent you from receiving the Catholic Holy Communion because, as a Baptist once told me, Baptists do not believe the consecrated bread and wine do become the body & blood of Christ, but you could certainly participate in a spiritual communion. Also, the Catholic Church uses real wine.

There are some non-Catholic religions that do attend Catholic services and receive Holy Communion with permission from the Church.

The Catholic religion does accept previous total submersion baptisms (that is the only type of baptism I have ever had).

Nothing wrong with receiving a blessing from anyone, be it Baptist, Catholic, etc. The crossing of the arms merely indicates to the priest that you are not receiving communion and would like to be blessed (totally voluntary). Kneeling is not necessary.

Of course, your prayers would be accepted in the Catholic Church! Whether or not they are heard depends on your relationship with God, not the Catholic Church!

Last, but not least, Catholics do most definitely pray directly to God.

Thank you for showing such interest in another's religion. My answers are not intended to convert but merely to inform and clarify. I too, had the same questions and misgivings about Catholicism. After a great deal of self-study, formal study, and understanding of Catholicism, I found that this particular religion best suited my own relationship with God. To each his own.

O.K. That part's true. If you have a previous total submersion baptism, and are "converting" to

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anonymous6:36 PM

6:14...your baptism in the Baptist Church is a Christian baptism and is accepted in the Catholic christian church. Both "religions" fall under the category of the CHRISTIAN faith. Both believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and in the Holy Trinity. God the Father. God the Son. And God the Holy Ghost. The Holy Trinity is a mystery of the Christian faith and will be revealed to us after death and resurrection into heaven by God.

Catholics believe that Jesue gave the apostles and their decendents the power to change wine and bread into His Body and Blood. At the Last Supper, Jesus said "Take this bread for it is My Body. Take this cup for it is My Blood." So, Catholics believe that ordained Catholic Priests are decendents of the original 12 Apostles and have the power given by Jesus at the Last Supper to change the bread and wine into the actual body and blood of Jesus. The Protestant Reformation was when all protestant religions broke off from the Catholic Church because of this belief and they did not want to acknowledge the Pope as the earthly head of the church.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous6:50 PM

It is the same ritual or ceremony, practiced by both religions. So, why can't a Baptist partake of this ritual
or ceremony in the Catholic church?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous7:05 PM

The Catholic church wants you to take RCIA classes to learn of the beliefs of the church and to fully understand that you are partaking of the ACTUAL Body and Blood of Jesus during Holy Communion. It is just a faith based process to become a Catholic. Call St. Joseph Church office and inquire of the "Why Catholic" classes as well as RCIA classes for non Catholics. It is very interesting to learn. There is no obligation to become a Catholic if you take these classes.

I don't belive that God has ever seen the inside of a chruch, nor does he care how, when or where you communicate with him. Man has invented all of these "details" and most organized religions are pure bunk! Everyone believes in THE god and we are all quite sure of it. God did not make "religions", man did! On which of the seven days did God "create" money and why are religions so obcessed with it? It is possible to be charitable without giving money to your church. My god doesn't need money, churches, rituals or "religions" and scoffs at those who do. My god believes in love for all, kindness to others, charity and grace. I believe that the true god is ashamed of all organized religions and their emphasis on money and personal "sacrifice". God put all of us here with brains to think and hearts with which to love. To divide ourselves into smaller segments is pure folly, led by greedy men who know nothing of faith!

Both are patterned after the Last Supper in the Gospels and participants communally eat the bread and drink the cup representative of the body and blood of Jesus. For the Baptists it is not a sacrament but it is symbolic of the body and blood of Jesus. Baptists do not believe in the Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that once an ordained priest blesses the bread and wine of the Lord's Supper, it is transformed into the actual flesh and blood of Christ, though it retains the appearance, odor, and taste of the bread and wine. The Catholic Mass service is a perpetual re-enactment of the Last Supper. For Catholics the Holy Communion is not symbolic, it is the real presence of Christ.

    Hope this has been helpful.

him and made remarks about him not being a "cradle Catholic". This was very upsetting to him, because he was sincere and enthusiactic about his new found faith.
When he told me about it, I additionally was very upset. My remark to him was "Well, behavior like that is one of the reasons that you left the Baptist faith. Now what are you going to do". He replied, "I am going to continue being a Catholic." He remained a Catholic for about 20 years until his death. But, his remaining family, respecting his faith,(they were Baptist) did have a Catholic Mass for him....they just did not have it locally, after the earlier remarks that were made to him.

The Hazen Foundation (www.hazenfoundation) did not approve Joyce Parkers' grant for the year 2009, for Citizens for a Better Greenville. Perhaps, she got her funding, if any, from Southern Echo, Inc., out of Jackson.

Southern Echo (www.southernecho) states on the website:

Southern Echo is a leadership development, education and training organization working to develop effective accountable grassroots leadership in the Africian-American communities in rural Mississippi and the surrounding region through comprehensive training and technical assistance programs.

Southern Echo's underlying goal is to empower local communities through effective community organized work, in order to create a process through which community people can build the broad-based organizations necessary to hold the POLITICAL, economic, educational, and environmental systems ACCOUNTABLE to the needs and interest of the Africian American community.

    School Board Approved Budget
    Eric Solomon DDT Staff Writer

Greenville-Members of the Greenville Public School District Board of Trustees passed a new budget for the 2009-2010 school year Tuesday.

With school just around the corner, the board approved the combined budget of $59,413,791 for the year ending 6/30/2010.

The largest portion of the fund,
$31,705,003 was allocated for instruction. Also, members voted to move $2.5 million in special revenue funds to the board's capital improvvement fund. It can
be used for projects for the next 5 years.

Dr. Harvey Franklin, superintendent, requested schoolss make future positions available to
the board in a well-organized list. He said the board needed to avoid over-hiring and other problems.

The board ended by approving a $2,000 recruitment bonus for new, qualified hires in several undisclosed areas.

    CITIZENS OF A BETTER GREENVILLE,
    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, JOYCE PARKER,
WHO ARRIVED AT THE MEETING IN IT'S FINAL MINUTES, SAID THE GROUP IS CONCERNED ABOUT TRANSPARANCY UNDER THE NEW SUPERINTENDENT.

"WE WANT TO HAVE A DIALOGUE," PARKER SAID.

"WE WANT TO DO MORE THAN REACT TO DECISIONS. WE WANT TO KNOW HOW THINGS HAPPEN AND DISCUSS THEM."

    ------------

Sounds to me like, Joyce and the superintendent had a "dialogue" about yesterday's fight, and decided to "sweep it under the rug"!

School budget of $59,413,791 divided by 6,200 children equals = $9,582.87 per child! I think that amount would pay any tuition for any private school in Mississippi!! Maybe we should have vouchers!

PS Head Start Budget $9,320,408 divided by 1,200 children = $7,767 per child!!!!!!!!!! Do they even have certified teachers??

    ReplyDelete

No, I don't think that Head Start does have certified teachers.

    Elementary teachers are normally
certified for grades K-8, but I think that changed when they got the 4 yr old Pre-K pgogram.

Jr. High and High school teachers are certified to teach grades 7-12 or either 8-12.

The only certification Head Start could have would be in pre-school or day care?

So, THE Greenville Public School District FINALLY
enforced their "zero tolerance" policy concerning fights!

They seemingly talk out BOTH sides of the mouth.

They state "out one side of the mouth" that they DO have "zero tolerance" concerning fights.

And then, they state "out the other side of the mouth" that every child is entitled to a public school education.

Oh, yeah, and then they "blow it out their ear", that they are trying to reduce the drop-out rate.

    Cut the bull.

Every child is entitled to a public education, IF and ONLY IF, he attends school regularly, studies hard, and behaves while there.

If the child does not behave, the other children can not learn, and the teacher can not do her/his job and teach, with the continuous disruptions.

Expell them, let them drop out, whatever. When mama's check starts getting cut because her child does not attend school, then maybe she'll do something.

Third District Attorny Bob Levy has recused himself and his office from the prosecution of GRAMBLIN,LA
MAYOR, MARTHA ANDRUS on malfesance in office charges.

State Attorney General Buddy Caldwell has appointed 7th. District Attorney Brad Burget to prosecute the case.

Burget was out of the office Wednesday and not available for comment.

District Attorneys do not have to provide a reason for a
recusal, but according to documents filed by Levy's office, he requested the recusal because one or more assistant district attorneys possibly would be called to testify.

According to the Rules of Professional Conduct, it would be improper for the district attorney or assistant district attorney to handle the case if they were called to testify.

State police arrested ANDRUS on July 7, 2009 and she was charged with two counts each of unauthorized use of a moveable and malfeasance in office. She is accused of using town funds to reimburse two employees for bail bonds following their arrests by Grambling police. ANDRUS was released from Lincoln Parish Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.

The town's Board of Alderman has also requested a restraining order and monetary damages against ANDRUS in 3rd District Court, but a ruling on that cas has been delayed because the board's attorney was disqualified.

Governor Bobby Jindal has called ANDRUS to resign, but she has said she will "absolutely not" resign.

Mayor Martha Andrus of Gramblng, LA. serves on the Executive Committee for the National Conference of

My dear Mr. Michael McNeece, you can write a letter to

    WHY NOT?

    Because:

    1. You don't have the respect of the parents or staff.

    2. You have been with the Greenville School District for ONLY three years (this is the beginning of the fourth year.)

    3. In three years you have been at THREE different schools.

    4. Prior to coming to Greenville, you were at Riverside for one year.

    5. Prior to that you (I lost count!), you were with
several different school districts in the Tupelo area.

    6. You move around a lot...going from job to job...school district to school district. Hmmmmm.

    7. You were criticized at Riverside
School by the parents because you didn't "handle" a certain "knife on the school bus" incident.

    8. You are a Teachers' Union Rep.

    9. You "sucked up" to the last Superintendent, and now you're trying to do it again. Didn't you and Estes Taplin both get a raise at the same board meeting? Hmmmmm.

Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the
    following question:

You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children.

    Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with
a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.

You are carrying a Colt Model 1911 45 cal. automatic pistol , and you are an expert shot.

You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

    What do you do?
    ................................................................

THINK CAREFULLY AND THEN SCROLL DOWN:

    Democrat's Answer :

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that
    would inspire him to attack?
    Could we run away?
    What does my wife think?

    What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club
and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it?

Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
    Should I call 9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have it painted and weeded daily and make this a happier, healthier street. That would discourage such behavior.
    This is all so confusing!
I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.

    .........................................................................

    Republican's Answer:

    BANG!

Did you see what that crazy Mayor had in the paper this week, in Tuesday's paper? It is not online; but the same crap is on this site:

    http://www.wxvt.com/global/story.asp?s=11161184

She is still spouting about a grant that does not exist (trying to make herself look like she cares) and now accusing the volunteer person as the cause of the loss of the grant that does not exist.

Proof!!!! This woman is delusional! I hope she gets what is coming to her...and soon...but it won't be a grant! :>)

    What volunteer person.?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Anonymous1:11 AM

The volunteer person could only mean Jennifer Jones. She has been fighting to fix up and save the city pool all along and wrote a letter in the DDT about the Mayor and her fake grant for the pool repair, trying to look like she was doing something. She was, she was trying to make herself look good!

    TO: 6:51 PM Post
    (Democrat, Republican or Redneck?)

An illegal alien in Polk County, Florida who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop ended up "executing" the deputy who stopped him.

The deputy was shot 8 times, including once behind his right ear, at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog was killed.

    A state-wide manhunt ensued.

The murderer was found hiding in a wooded are with his gun.

After he shot at them, SWAT team officers opened fire and hit the guy 68 times.

    Now, here's the kicker....

Naturally, the liberal media went nuts and asked why they shot the poor, undocumented immigrant 68 times.

Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando
Sentinel: (talk about an all-time classic answer)

"Because that's all the ammunition we had."

Instead of teaching them Black History, maybe
they need to study American History. A hundred years ago, almost everyone was poor, black and white, but, surprisingly, they had values and less crime. Hmmmmmm.

You wrote a column in the DDT,
about THE fight at the Greenville-Weston campus. Additionally, you mentioned that in 1983, a student
was shot and killed at school.

Sorry, but, I don't remember that and I worked there.

The fact that the GHS/W school has to have security guards at all, says it all in today's world of public education and in some cases private school education.

The only "security" that I recall growing up in my public schools was the Principal, the Coaches and the teachers. That was more than enough to keep the kids in line back then....and of course a few calls to parents to handle it at home never hurt either!

I happen to be a 1983 graduate of Greenville High and there are several mistakes posted above! The homecoming queen for MY class was Doris Williams, not Antionette Mitchell (aka Toni, the sister-in-law of Jerry Rice)! Also, there was no one shot and killed there that year or any of the time I was at GHS. Greenville High School (not Greenville-Weston) was a totally different place. I can say all of this with absolute certainty. You see, I am a white guy that was involved with a lot of school activites. GHS was not a bad school then. Mr. Cummins did not teach math, he taught Trig and Calculus. We did not have any metal detectors or security guards. What has happened since then is tragic. The city officials that all of YOU elect appoint people to positions that have no idea how to run schools, hospitals, etc. You all get what you deserve! I can honestly say (and not regretfully) that I no longer live in Greenville! If you do not take control of YOUR city and elect people that know what they are doing, it is only going to get worse. So what are YOU, the citizens of Greenville, going to do about it???

How about this list Mayor, see if you can make these first to push:

    Jobs

Increase GPD and improve salary and qualifications to get the best.

Support your city in activities to show you care.
    Jobs

I would like to respond to 6:39AM. As far as jobs. Exactly what type of jobs do you think the people of Washington County can perform? The new distribution center opening next month has been looking for about 30 drug free, literate workers. From what we have heard, it has been a challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Anonymous10:06 AM

IF a person is drug-free and literate and WANTS to work is the answer. Even an assistant teacher with THE school system is only required to have a high school diploma and pass a test equivalient

Dozens of potential jurors out in Hughes trial

Canton- Of the 169 potential jurors summoned to hear the capital murder trial of a former schoolteacher accused of killing a pregnant woman, 70 were eliminated by noon today.

Circuit Judge William Chapman said jury selection may take better part of this week.

Carla Hughes,28,a former Jackson Public Schools teacher, is accused of killing Avis Banks,27,and her unborn child on Nov.29.,2006,in what police suspect was a love triangle involving Banks' fiance.

    Serial Burglar Captured

The arrest of a woman in Pelham may have cracked a series of crimes
    By Neal Vickers
    Saturday, September 26, 2009

Heather Hudson is accused of a string of more than two dozen burglaries. She and an accomplice were arrested in Pelham two weeks ago for burglarizing a home there. Investigators then discovered she also had property from a burglary in Tuscaloosa County. Hudson and another woman are now accused of robbing homes in Tuscaloosa County since July. They targeted homes at random and investigators have already solved 26 burglary investigations and think she and two cohorts may be linked to others.

    5:58PM POST

You are absolutely right about the ADA. That's why they want to send students to the Alternative School(used to be housed at Garrett-Hall,don't know where it is now)instead of expelling them....they (the students)are still "carried" on their base schools' roll and STILL included
in the ADA count and $$$$$$. Same thing with an "overaged program". Hell, they can even be out for six weeks on "maternity leave" and still be counted present. Money isn't always the answer to everything.

P.S. The average person does not even know what ADA is....so you must know about schools!

P.S.S. It is required by law that the local social services
offices send a print-out to the schools to verify that students are enrolled and attending school regularly (example: Food stamps, welfare, SSI)

    affiliated with THE schools:

"It takes until about mid-October to get rid of ALL of the "disciplinary problemed students" and the ones that really just don't want to be there. After they are "culled out", the remaining ones behave and study."

This "saying" has held true for the past 30 years.

And then, second semester, with the enrollment of
"new" students, and again, after spring break, you "cull them again"!

9 out of 10 "new" enrollees got
expelled from their previous school. The other 1 moved with their whole family and relocated because of their parents' jobs.

In the past, Greenville High school
had ONE principal and TWO assistant principals and about 1200 students.

How many assistant principals do they have now? At one point, they had FOUR!

Get rid of the excessive assistant
    principals (administrators!) and
hire more security guards. You could get 2 security guards per each assistant principal!

Teachers did NOT attend college to learn how to "break up" a fight. They are disignated for instruction ONLY.
