However, the lies that were told so enthusiastically make me sick. I have also heard many other people comment negatively on the piece since it aired. Ray must have thought it necessary to counter this forum with the tv effort.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29570776.post-2013238327117865712007-11-09T10:08:00.000-06:002007-11-09T10:08:00.000-06:00The local media has a vested interest in promoting...The local media has a vested interest in promoting the hospital, local gov't - or it summary - the "status quo." The "status quo" is keeping local media outlets afloat with advertising. To change that or promote change can potentially cut choke the revenue stream. Don't blame the media. Many of these outlets (the 3 prominent ones) have to do this because they've no other choice. The advertising revenue base is too narrow. In fact, those media outlets that choose silence rather than pandering "news coverage" should be applauded. It's better to not cover a non-news story and let rumors fly where they may - sticking to the facts, instead.

That said, a very big congratulations to Forthright and Delta Scoop for stirring some movement. Someone felt compelled to produce or organize a televised segment to rebut allegations (yes, allegations) and negative word-of-mouth. That's influence! Just think, the blog gets only word-of-mouth promotion and the traditional media won't dare mention it because it's a free source of information (much unofficial, by the way) that certainly makes people ask questions.

You best believe the reporters and editors in TV and print read this blog. They don't know everything and being in the business of asking questions, I'm sure they have a few. However, covering stories where employees basically lament working for a certain boss isn't really news; we all complain about our boss! But, tangible effects of lost employees and contract medical employees are rising to the forefront slowly and steadily. It is an issue. Besides, discussions can only improve healthcare for those who can't afford to "outward migrate" and exercise choice in medical care. Poor Folks, that is....

Side note: Obtaining positive coverage is what "directors of marketing" are paid to obtain. Marketing is also vital to any non-profit or for-profit organizations. Therefore, the DRMC marketing director did her job as she's paid to do and should not be condemned for it.

After all, if two people really like working for DRMC, then it's a great place to work (for them).

If workers who covertly contribute thoughts to this blog were interviewed praising their work conditions, then you may've sold out, but that's your personal issue. If the camera were stuck in your face, involuntarily, and you want a paycheck, then you play the game and keep paying your bills. Besides, they'd edit it out anyway (unless the interviews were live) The courage of one doesn't get it done. It gets you fired for seemingly unrelated reasons.

Congratulations Forthright and the Delta Scoop! The little baby has grown a bit. I just hope we don't let the rest of the city get off the hook while focused on the hospital.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
